Story behind the song
Just a reminder - we would be meeting at You Me Gallery, 330 James St. North at 7 PM tomorrow (Thursday) - I shall bring along some chalks. Hope we have some young people with good knees who can bend down for drawing the shadow outlines and get up afterwards! -Kursheed Ahmed
Lyrics
SHADOW PROJECT 2013 On August 6 and 9, 1945, atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. The blasts destroyed the cities and killed over 200,000 citizens. People were instantly vaporized. In cooperation with International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) we invite you to take part in this year's Shadow Project. Hundreds of body outlines will be drawn in chalk on the streets and sidewalks of James St. North on Thursday evening, Aug 8, beginning at 7 pm as a reminder to Hamiltonians of the human tragedy inflicted by nuclear weapons. We need people to lie on the ground and people to trace their outlines. The more the better! Meet at You Me Gallery, 330 James St. North, 7 pm. The sight of the "shadows" will be a powerful addition to the following evening's Art Crawl. (Wear suitable clothing, chalk supplied, but please bring some if you have it, only an hour or so of your time!) Commemoration ceremony at the Peace Pole and reception, City Hall Aug 9, 12 pm.
