United States Department of Jive

I'm an old-school dude. I like jazz. I don't use sampled phrases, arpeggiators, or other junk - anything you hear from me was played in realtime.

Smokin' Blunts! Smokin' Blunts!

Really, just an idea I had while I was working on another tune; it's unaccompanied. I'll flesh it out later.

Jazz General

Right now, my band consists of me and a whole pile of hardware. Later, well...who knows. ;-)
Band/artist history
I'm 60. I played all over the place, decades ago. Takin' another shot at it, now that my kids are grown.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I'm doing some session work here and there. When I have my group together (auditioned 11 bassists so far...ick) I'll play out.
Your musical influences
I'm an organist, so of course I was influenced by the great organ trio dudes - Jimmy Smith, Jack MacDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Charles Earland, Groove Holmes, etc. Lots of guitarists on the list - Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, Joe Pass, Ed Bickert, Jim Hall, Bucky Pizzarelli, many others. Dizz, Miles, Trane, of course. Paul Desmond, Stan Getz. Motown, sure. James Brown! Some blues and funk. In my younger days, I covered damn near everything that was popular in order to make the rent; hated nearly all of it.
What equipment do you use?
A Hammond-Suzuki XK3 and XK3-c, a Roland Fantom G-6 with ARX-02 onboard, and a Yamaha Motif rack module. Around 2,000 watts of QSC power amps, driving cabinets I built using P-Audio 15" Neodymium LF drivers for bass and P-Audio 12" coax drivers upstairs. Bi-amped using a Behringer Ultradrive processor. A Behringer Xenyx-series mixer for the keys. A whole mess of other stuff (after all, I own a music store...no shortage of gear...) I'm not going to list.
