Somedays Somedays
My first collab with a rapper from Massachusetts, I do the chorus and 2nd verse

"Let them judge you, and accept their criticism."
Ultimately you are only as good as the majority vote. This is something
that Ukay has had to deal with through the trail and error of the music
business, and life.
His story begins in Dallas, the north side, to be exact, where he was
born to a low-income, Nigerian household. Watching his family having to
struggle early in life, really pushed Ukay in maturing faster than
most. He made up his mind early that he was not going to just be another
book on the shelf, he would have success, and that failure was not going
to be an option. That looked like more dream than reality as time
passed, because while he dealt with eating the little his family could
provide, wearing only what was passed down from his oldest brother. Early on
he also noticed that comparing himself to the kids his age was more
like a microscope magnifying, that he was also lacking the respect and
level of friendships, through by lack of having some superficial items his
peers related to.
Just when things were there hardest, Ukay still had tests of being
accepted, as being, normal, or even just being American enough, by his
classmates, something that made him an outcast for what seemed like a big
part of his early school years. Yet even after acceptance, there's still
having to find the best way to show he's never turned his back on his
Nigerian people. The pull in two different directions is enough for
someone to need therapy.
This future, R&B singer, found solace, joy and peace, through the
Bible and writing. As he started writing, and learning he was pretty good,
his interest in music began. It came right around the time his mom
purchased a Michael Jackson video. A video which was memorized, analyzed,
mimicked, and understood.
Ukay arrived, here comes the $25 microphone from Radio Shak, that he so
strategically used, after recording to a 60 minute Memorex tape, radio
stations that played only elevator music, or tropical sounds of the
rain forest. Ukay would take the tape full of what he called
instrumentals, then brainstorm, practice and overall, create.
Talent shows where not far behind, starting as early as 9 years of
age, and still going today, his accolades included:
1st place at Club Steppers Talent Extravaganza on opening night--Arlington TX (May 02)
2nd place at Club Diamonds Talent Search--Dallas Tx (June 02)
2nd place at Igbo Talent Show at the Centerville Ballroom --Garland Tx (May 03)
Opening musical act at the Zebulun Management Modeling Extravaganza--
Plano, Tx (Nov 05)
2 song prefomance during Talent Night at Gypsy Tea Room--(Dec 05)
Preformance with rap group Dekaboyz at the Gypsy Tea Room---Downtown Dallas, Tx (Dec 05)
When asked what will separate Ukay from the pack, he will sincerely let
you know that although he sings he also does a little hip hop
infusion." Its more of a way," he says, "To get out feelings where the words are
so meaningful, so strong, I need to be express them in a very bold
manner without any rifts, high notes, or romantic chords. He has found a
balance that his stage name "Tha R&Beast", can fully back up. He wants to
be an artist that will be around for a long time and his versatility in
both genres will help. Yet, he will be the first to clarify that he is
not a rapping singer. He is an R&B singer, who, on occasion, will bring
a few bars for a message he wants to get across.
His hope is that through networking online, collaborations, and shows
he will not necessarily sign to a major label, since he knows all the
hype and disappointment that causes, but rather to be successful, touch
lives, live out his dreams, attain a better living for him and his
family, and, overall, give back.
