TRICIA CONCEPCION
“Artist and Angel Finds Her Voice”
The Detroit music scene has been instrumental in creating and reviving music throughout history. With the rise of Motown and then noise bands like the MC5 and Iggy Pop & the Stooges in the sixties to the guitar rock of Ted Nugent and Bob Segar in the Seventies, music is born and redefined in Detroit. The Motown Sound began here. Techno began here. Then in the late nineties, Detroit was back on the map as the music industry began putting it’s magnifying glass over the city to look for the next Detroit success like Eminem, Kid Rock, The White Stripes, Insane Clown Posse, Aaliyahand now Detroit introduces the world to Tricia Concepcion.
Charisma, beauty, style and passion are a short description of singer-songwriter Tricia Concepcion. At 24, she is no longer a newcomer to the music scene with her acoustic-melodic pop that has already created quite a stir. With one album, “Anything is Everything,” and another on the way, Concepcion is ready to join the ranks of her Detroit predecessors.
As a child, Concepcion grew up outside of Detroit with a family full of musical talent. By age 6, she was already playing the piano. When she was 13, Concepcion took up the drums and percussion. However, while playing in several bands throughout high school as a drummer or keyboardist, she began taking interest in developing her own voice and musical style.
As college was an interesting time for Concepcion, filled with heartbreak, growth and the creation of new friendships, she was curious to find another way to express herself, or maybe just another way to pass time. Soon she began to teach herself to play the guitar. At 19, with the confidence she now had as a musician, Concepcion was inspired to write songs for her 1999 debut album, “Anything Is Everything.” Not only did she write all of the album’s songs and did the vocals and harmonies, but also played all the percussion, acoustic guitar and keyboard parts on the album as well as playing bass on one song.
Since the debut of “Anything Is Everything,” Concepcion has played to numerous sold-out venues and created quite a large fan following both in the U.S. and in Canada.
In the years that followed, Tricia Concepcion continued touring and writing new songs. In 2002, she relocated to New York City where she has been performing regularly in the New York/Tri-State area. With Concepcion’s forthcoming album, her lyrics and music are sometimes soft-spoken and sincere; while at other times bite with anger and sway in sadness, but always leaves you feeling her intended emotion. The music is soothing and catchy; the lyrics are provoking and intense. Her voice is beautiful. It is what you want whispered in your ear and left dangling in your head like a lasting, glorious seed. The music of Tricia Concepcion will be known soonand then remembered for years to come.

Of course I like it, but it can be tough sometimes, especially when I'm solo and I don't have a 10 piece band to drown my mistakes out! They are all special moments to me, *sniff, sniff*
