Pop Rock

We are New Zealand's premier experimental lo-fi pop duo. Over the past ten years, our music has evolved into a melodic-pop influenced ambient sound with an experimental outlook, increasingly loungy undertones and a taste for weird and amusing samples.
Band/artist history
We are Peter Lewis and Sean Murgatroyd. We met in Tauranga, New Zealand in the late eighties and there we did some of the important parts of our growing up together. We are very fortunate that this friendship continues to this day despite life's rocky road. Music was always a part of our friendship, and in the early days we listened to skater punk, metal, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (endlessly) and more. Some time in the nineties we were both living in Auckland and it was in a training studio in Parnell that we cut our first track, a very angry anarchist statement that ended with Sean righteously baaing in imitation of the sheep that inhabited the world with him. Since then we found more urbane ways to express ourselves creatively, and our music has evolved into a melodic-pop influenced ambient sound with an experimental outlook, increasingly loungy undertones and a taste for weird and amusing samples.
Your musical influences
Our sound is probably closest to the likes of Ween, Butthole Surfers, Regurgitator, The Orb, and the first Pink Floyd album.
What equipment do you use?
Our approach is defiantly low-tech. We use ReBirth and Cool Edit Pro for generating beats and bass and assembling multi track mixes. We use whatever cheap keyboard and instruments are available, along with various found samples and cut-up dialogue.
