The Sunshine Road is an award-winning, family based musical group. They have performed at a variety of venues, including Sesame Place, Six Flags Amusement Park, The Hartford Civic Center, Lake Compounce and the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament. Together for a little over five years, the Sunshine Road believes in the power that music has on children's self-esteem, which is why they have devoted their creativity to developing music that is upbeat, interactive, and of course fun! The Sunshine Road's music is based on the notion that when children sing and dance they feel great about themselves and aren't afraid to dream, and with that dream they can create a future full of happiness for themselves and for the world. It starts with one little song.
David Verdosci, is the lead singer and songwriter for the Sunshine Road. Covering background vocals and percussion is his sister-in-law, Rhonda Mesenbourg. All of their children also get in on the fun. David's wife Paula helps to manage the group and Rhonda's husband Tim helps with the production. Their style is a mix of influences from Caribbean to 70's pop rock. It's a sound they refer as "A little bit of Sunshine and a little bit of rock and roll."Have you performed in front of an audience? We play all over the place. We LOVE it! Nothing compares with Live! We are thankful for every venue. We have played in enormous Theatres for thousands of people and in tiny tiny spots for like ten people. what do you do..that's the business, you take everything that comes..you got to give em a great show. Same energy...same show, same love! The audiences are always amazing though..they just rock. I mean we are talking Mom, dad and the little ones...really little ones..they just Rock Out and it is a joy. We did this one show, great outdoor stage, large crowd anticipated...and just before the show -it starts pouring. So there we are under this shell..the audience retreated off to the five vendor tents which were at least 60 yards away
and we had to project our sound and our energy
to fill the void between. you know what-it was awesome. We spent more time laughing and then, wouldn't you know the sun breaks at the end of our set. The crowd wanders out into the mud.We close strong with a rocking-island version of "Put a little love in your heart". We sold more CD's that show than we ever expected and had the time of our lives...If you were there...thank you, you helped make up one of our favorite memories!
Your musical influences
Always fans of 70's pop. Maybe it just kind of feels a little bit innocent and carefree. Kind
of like growing up in the "70's"...with the Partridge Family, the Brady Bunch, Peter Frampton, Jimmy Buffet and all of the great pop
singers, some that we are embarrassed to admit that we loved...yet somehow have managed to stand the test of time. As far as our style?...
just mix 70's Pop Rock with some Caribbean Flavoring add a whole lot of Love and then SHAKE it up...and you've got a recipe that makes up
THE SUNSHINE ROAD's distinct sound. What equipment do you use?
We use a Sony PC based VIAO Cubase System. I have pushed it to 25 sometimes 30 audio tracks.
We run it out of an AUDIGY gaming card...now don't get snobby...this is a pro gaming card.
And turns out to be a top notch recording one as well. The evironmental effects just harmonize with music production.
I love to mix acoustic instruments with digital sounds. If I use a Midi based sax sound, I'll color it with an alto and the end result is so large. I'll do the same with drums and orchestration Our studio becomes littered with instruments...everything from african percusion,
violin, horns, penny flutes, shakers (I've even used a pepper shaker off the table because it was the right tone I wanted.) Then we export the mix and send it through a program I have come to love called T-Racks. It is tube emulating mastering program. It's sweet. Then I listen to the mix for a week in every kind of player available.
We are forever experimenting and we live for those happy accidents that become great songs.
And that's it in a nut shell...enjoy the music!
