Band/artist history
THE ROCKATEERS BIO - LOUDER THAN EVER! This is the story of The Rockateers, a blasting rock combo from Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1999 or so singer/guitar-player Danny DeLuxxxe and drummer Pekka Poison decided they should form a band. They had been playing alongside of each other for several years in bands like Blissful Meditation and Enema (both as drummers.... ) and now they figured it was finally time to do something together. Initially Danny was meant to do the drumming and Pekka the singing but that changed after a year or so. They decided the type of music they wanted to play was Rock'n'roll. Dirty, primitive, fast, aggressive and in the face, bands like Motorhead and Misfits became guiding stars. In the hard rockin' year of 2000 the band was starting to get it's shape. The first line-up was to feature the excellent guitar-player Joakim Fritzner and bass-player Petter Eriksson (El Musico, Gusto, Dolving). This one only lasted for one rehearsal though. It became clear these guys weren't the ones to do the job. They were great but not for this... This is when Juicy Jay came into the picture. He had been the guitar-player in an earlier band that Danny had been in and he had just moved back home to Gothenburg after a few Years in London. Everything fell into place with Jay and all the band lacked now was someone to fill the slot as a bass-player. An old friend of Danny's, Coffey, would be the one picking up the bass. This became a temporary solution and maybe that was for the best, but there was no personal conflict at all when Coffey decided to leave The Rockateers after only six months or so. Once again The Rockateers had nobody to fill up the low-frequency area. A decision was made to ask Fredrik Johansson, the ex-Dark Tranquillity guitar-player, if he was interested. (He was the older brother of Pekka's old bandmate from the Enema years) Fredrik let The Rockateers know he was interested and adapt to King Khaos. Things started to happen, recordings were made and the band started to sound great and develop a sound of their own. A 5-track promo CD entitled "Louder Than Ever" was recorded in the legendary Studio Fredman and sent out to record companies with a wonderful inner sleeve designed by Niklas Sundin at Cabin Fever Media. No positive response was to appear though. Only the Swedish national radio were interested in the Rockateers and played "Nationwide Stupidity" and "Pure Attraction" in their P3 Demo show. An interview with Danny DeLuxxxe was also included in the package. After maybe one and a half year of total laziness (or should we say lameness?) the band faded away, probably because nothing happened. No gigs, no lust to write new material and no record companies willing to sign them. Danny and Pekka would form the band Time Design to approach totally different style. King Khaos would get his girlfriend pregnant and become a father for the second time, this time around the result would be twins. In 2004 Danny, Pekka and Jay met for a few drinks in a bar downtown Gothenburg. Pekkas old guitar-player Nik, younger brother of mr Khaos, was there too. Someone suggested they would meet the next day and see what happened. What happened was The Rockateers were reborn, hungrier than ever. Nik added the appropriate surname Nastee and replaced his brother. Everything fell into place once again and The Rockateers were ready to take on the world. They still are so watch out! Danny Deluxxxe / Pekka Poison / Juicy Jay / Nik Nastee August 2004
