"Just trying to deliver something different to the game" words spoken by the rap pheonom simply as The Reason. The 21 year old rapper hails from Orange,VA(540 area code), although originally from Dale City,VA(703) he didn't get involved in rapping until he moved to Orange during his freshman year of high school. It was than he started battle rapping in school against several people getting his voice heard. He started out just as Kah'lil "The Schoolboy", a name he orginated while in middle school. Due to conflicts upon the end of his freshman year he than changed his name to Kah'lil "The Reason".
By his sophmore year he had recorded his first cd N.I.P(Nothing Is Promised) Mainly was just for fun he actually got a good credit not only by his friends and family but also a couple teachers in high school. "It was a crazy feeling" says the rapper "I mean I knew I would have a couple people that liked it but when teachers saying it was nice my eyes were like whhhhatttt" It was also in that year that the group GravelROC was formed with members Country Boy & L-Dub and two mixtapes were released by the group in 03 and 04.
The Reason didn't make another solo cd until May 2005 entitled Where Is Kah'lil Jones with the hit single "You's A Bitch". This cd created a great buzz in Orange County and over 100 copies were given out in just a short week!! Following his graduation of high school The Reason quickly went back into the studio to record his next album entitled This is My Show. "Now that I was done with school I had more time and effort to actually put in my music, less was on my mind." This proved true as quickly you could see improvement in his flow as well as punchlines and metaphors. While not creating a strong buzz like Where is Kah'lil Jones. It still was a quality cd.
He than fell back into the shadows releasing another GravelROC mixtape Kool Aid & Syrup Sandwiches and allowing Country Boy & L-Dub to release their solo cds. In fall of 06 The Reason came back out with what was at the time called his best album to date. The Rated "R" Superstar drew a high buzz with such hits as "Top 8", "So Into You", "Everytime" & "Get Low". This cd did well not only in Orange but in other parts of VA where heard. It showed his growth as this was the first cd released where he dropped Kah'lil and was simply known as The Reason. "I just felt like this cd should show how much I have grown and understand the music now" the rapper says "I tried to touch a little bit of everything I had some club songs, street songs, love songs, even songs to make you think or cry"
So where is The Reason now? Currently he is in the studio working on his next cd The Champ is Here to be released summer of 08. When asked how is this cd going to be different from the others he replied "This cd is deep...I mean real deep everything I'm writing is just how I've been and what I've been going through since I last made Rated "R" Superstar. I feel it's my time, time for me to hold the belt up and yell THE CHAMP IS HERE!!!" With all the supporters and few doubters he has emerged through it all. When asked what will he do if the doubters catch up with the supporters he just smiled and said "Just when they think they know the answers...I change the questions"
