Band/artist history
Who R The EMC Boyz? As a unit, they are officially known as the EMC Boyz, a collection of rappers, singers and in-house producers from the Empirical Music Company label. Members include Ruger, Lunacie, Darcsage, Rame, Blaze One, Ben Dillan, Doe Boy The Official, Bigg-H & Bullet Beatz. Three of the members (Ruger, Darcsage & Ben Dillan) grew up in the same neighborhood in Oakland, while the others knew each other from high school and from around the way. It started with Ruger’s album “The Commencement” in 2003 which presented an array of club, street & jazzy tracks. Along with Ruger’s deep personal thoughts, his raw and solid vocals (he won’t admit it but the cat can sing too), this was an introduction to the versatility the label would bring (not your regular Hip-Hop/Rap label). During that time, Ruger brought Ben Dillan & Darcsage to the studio to collaborate. Darcsage had been making beats since his teen years and his style varied from Hyphy to Smooth Lounge tracks with lyrics from life experiences to girls to partying. Ben Dillan also made those West Coast G tracks but focused more on his flows and his hustlin’ lyrical mentality. After a year, Lunacie came to the studio with 3 other MC’s and of those 3, Lune was invited back to the studio to record. Lune is a gifted piano player and uses his skills to bring life to tracks with live instrumentations instead of the common sample based shit that’s saturating the industry. Soon after that, Lune brought Rame, Bigg-H & Bullet Beatz to the studio and so on and so forth (Bigg-H brought Blaze One, Darcsage brought Doe Boy The Official). The crew creates a menacing and potent soundscape of hardcore beats while still satisfying those who want something smoother. Their lyrical flows range from Hyphy to Partyin’ to Girls to Hustlin’ to Lost Homies to Family. Depending on the beat, depending on the moment. After recording throughout 2005, the EMC Boyz had enough material to release their first commercial album “EMC Presents : Underground Disciples, Vol. 1”. Their impressive work on “Underground Disciples, Vol. 1” featured the young musicians/MCs racking up achieved notable tracks that caught the attention of a regional fan base and got the label a digital distribution deal with IODA (iTunes, Rhapsody, emusic, SonyConnect, Yahoo!Music, AOL Music, Amazon.com). From head-knockin’, club tracks like “We Don’t Give A F**k”, “Thugged Out” to ready for radio tracks like “Oh Bay-Bay”, “Burnin’ Up”; West Coast songs like “California”, “How Da Bay Do”, “Ridahz & Hittaz” to teasing tracks like “I Told Juh”they also keep it serious and truthful in tracks like “Take This Pain.” With the help of the internet, the EMC Boyz were able to reach fans on a broader base including Mexico, Japan, the U.K. & Australia. The Underground Disciples album also paved the way for key deals with Movaya Wireless (ringtones), HavocTV, Digital Jukebox companies, Compilations, Licensing companies and background music providers. Next time you see a Jukebox search for the EMC Boyz or next time you’re shopping, eating at a restaurant or working out at a fitness club, don’t be surprised if you hear an EMC Boyz song in the background. The stage had been set for the EMC Boyz and it’s members to begin working on their solo careers. In 2007, Empirical Music Company released Lunacie’s solo debut album“NEED NO APPROVAL” (released April 24, 2007) which earned him Artist of the Month at BayLuv, featured artist on iSound with over 5,000 hits in 1 month, CDfuse.com featured artist, Names To Look Out for in 2008, included in W-Hotels of New York compilation (Tune Service) & a feature on Clear Channel's Exclusive New! featuring national talent. Next was Darcsage’s “DA LAST SON” (released May 15, 2007) which also earned him iSound featured artist with over 3,500 hits in 1 month, CDfuse.com featured artist, included in W-Hotels of New York compilation & a feature on Clear Channel's Exclusive New! featuring national talent on many of it's media channels. Doe Boy’s “HAVE NO FEAR” (released July 17, 2007) earned him a video feature at BSX for his song “Go-g-g-Go-Go”, the Hyphy single from his album, which will also be included on an upcoming CD/DVD compilation featuring other Bay Area artists. Within each project you can find a number of guest appearances from EMC Boyz members and other Bay Area artists as well. With projects from Rame, Blaze One, Ruger, & Ben Dillan receiving the final touches, 2008 will be a big and busy year for the EMC Boyz and the label. Keep an eye out for the second group album “Empirical Formula” (release date early 2008) and unreleased material to be available exclusively at STmusic.com.
