"The Ingalloids are Kennon Barton, Beau Espey, and Pat Powell. We've been together officially for a year as of January 2009. Things have been moving very fast and we are just about finished with our debut album. The band first began as a two piece acoustic/bongo set with me singing and playing the guitar and Pat playing bongos and B Boxin'. After about eight years of mixed shows and small, barely motivated attempts at trying to do something serious, me and Pat decided the only way to really be serious about our music was to integrate it into a three piece rock band. Our first couple of recent acoustic shows happened after Chris Poole set me up with a show @ The Celtic through Ryan Dallett, and Pat happened to randomly be there. Pat jumped up on stage and started rocking a ten-gallon drum and we had a blast, having finally reunited playing after about 2 years of Pat working on numerous other music projects, and me hiding and writing alone in my apartment while I finished school. We continued to play together every time I scheduled a gig, mostly @ The Celtic, but sometimes @ The Julep Room's Open Mic in O.S. or The Blind Mule's Open Mic in Mobile. We became more serious about the music through playing it, and seeing how far both of us had come, still blending rhythm with rhyme and vice versa. At this time I believe we were going by the name "KB and the Five Finger Discount", a name Pat randomly came up with to put on a flyer when we played together @ Michael's back in the day when Pat managed there. We were solidified as an acoustic act when Ryan offered us the job of hosting Open Mic Night every Wed. @ The Celtic. Soon after meeting many new people from the local music scene through open mic, and reconnecting to old friends when playing acoustic shows throughout the Fall/Winter of '07 and Spring of '08, me and Pat came up with the idea of turning the project into a three-piece. The only person Pat could think of as a logical addition as a drummer while he moved to bass was Beau. Beau and Pat played together in numerous bands, both playing a wide variety of different instruments. To me it was perfect. My favorite local band of all time has always been Best Left Unsaid, and I knew from watching Beau when he was with the band, that he was very talented, and though I never knew he could play drums, I knew I could definitely trust Pat. The rest is kind of history. Beau came out to a couple of Open Mic Nights and listened and was ready to go. Pat went out of town to visit some friends in Austin, and by the time he had come back, me and Beau had already worked out the melodies and harmonies of I'll Prey. It was pretty exciting, considering how fast we picked up singing harmonies and trying to work together on arrangements the first day, really making solid progress. When Pat came home we practiced together for the first time and we felt we had something special. We've all stayed excited since, having built a studio, mostly set up with the help and equipment of Richie Fortenberry, who has also been a huge help in pointers and tips on mixing, equipment and borrowing all kinds of stuff, and we've almost finished recording our first album. As far as band names go, our first choice was "The Narrator" or "Narrators", but we looked on myspace and they were taken, along with the dollar generals, and a couple of others we threw out there. Then, we saw some police officers on horses in Mobile and came up with a "Pigs on Horses" joke, considering we're kind of country and it was funny at the time to think someone could mistake you saying it as seeing two stacked barnyard animals. Then, after working on the initial lo-fi recordings that are on the website in my one bedroom studio apartment, me an Pat came up with "The Red Basement." It was soon discarded as not even being as cool as "Pigs on Horses". We then talked about what we wanted to do and who we were and why we're here and all this philosophy behind everything and everyone from our area and we finally decided to come up with "The Ingalloids". For as long as I can remember, growing up in this area, anyone who worked at Northrup Grumman(Ingalls) was called an Ingalloid. We wanted to use the name to kind of make a statement about who and what we really represent, and considering that without the true Ingalloids and the other industry workers in and around this area, there wouldn't be a "this area,"we felt that there was no better way to represent our area and ourselves but by calling ourselves The Ingalloids. Plus we ride up and down Ingalls Avenue all day. Ha. Anyway, hope this was entertaining to some degree. Come check us out. Maybe you'll be as excited as we are." -Kennon, 1/14/2009Have you performed in front of an audience? We've been playing live in Mississippi for a year. We're branching out soon.

We just uploaded "A Lonely Call for Allies". Stay tuned. We're already recording again. This project was an attempt to record our live version of these songs and it is pretty rockin. The next album will be different. Not that we don't enjoy Lonely Call, its just that we feel the need to change up our recording, playing, writing style in order to reach further into our creativity. This next one is going to be everything we ever dreamed and more. All the equipment is in place. Its just a matter of time.
