Hello there !
We are The Dirty Specs (specs meaning glasses) from the cold depths of Finland.
TDS consists, as of now of ,myself Ville and my cousin Hermanni.
I handle the main producing duties and some keyboard action, while Hermanni is responsible for the guitars and some electronics as well.Band/artist history
We formed the band as early as 1995, but back then we were a couple of 10 year olds playing with a keyboard instead of action figures and shouting weird lyrics on top of it.
Looking back at that period, it was probably us at our most experimental ;) .
In 1997-8 we managed to get a hold of a tracker-software and suddenly our music started to sound a bit more professional... well kinda.
We never really thought back then that we'd make music seriously and do gigs (although that was always our biggest dream).
After some years passed we started to get some real equipment like the legendary Roland Groovebox(R.I.P.). Then in 1999 we made our turn to MIDI and our first EP (Space Shuttle Boogie) was born also that year.
Our big breakthrough came in the year 2002, when we almost got signed to a finnish electro-label
but I guess we were too young for them :)
Through contacts we also got gigs, at techno parties mainly.
In 2003-2004 we had to put the band at rest since we finnish boys need to go to the army, and that took us a year or two.
That brings us to the year 2005, when we are starting things over again with a more rockier and experimental music rather than discobeats.Have you performed in front of an audience?We certainly play live, but the thing is, last year was a bit quiet on that front.
In 2003 we played about 5 gigs, and one of them was at a big Techno event in Helsinki !
Your musical influences
Ummm... a bit tricky,since our music spans from discobeats to ambient
but I'd say we are influenced by the following:
* Kraftwerk,
* Pink Floyd,
* Death in Vegas,
* Radiohead
* Massive Attack
+ The Prodigy (we were huge fans when we started out in 1995)What equipment do you use?
