The Darkness Peering originally formed as ‘Penance’ in early 2002 in the small New York town of Manorville. They are a metal band with many genres influencing their musical style. With the help of an ambitious playlist of music from around the world, and spanning genres, they wrote their first rough copy of the (now defunct) song ‘Vengeance.’ Eventually, things became more serious, everything was fine tuned, and more songs were written. The Darkness Peering was chosen to reflect those very changes because it seems to describe the enigmatic nature of each of its members and their ambitions and outlooks on life itself. The famous Ouroboros was chosen for the symbol of the band mostly because it is interpreted to mean infinity. Infinite nature is a staple concept in our society and reality. Everything is an infinite cycle; life and death, love and heartbreak, hunger and thirst, the cycle will always continue.
We began as "Penance" in 2002. Since then we have gotten some new members, refined our goals as a band and changed the direction we are heading in musically. We changed our name to "The Darkness Peering." Under this new name, we released a self-titled demo in 2009. At the close of 2009 we released another demo, "It is Written." This demo was recorded at Full Force Recordings on Long Island.
Of course! We've played shows all over Long Island, and we'll soon be playing in New York City. Like it is an understatement. Playing a show is one of the most satisfying experiences in the world. Every show has its special moments; some good and some bad.
There are plenty of these:
Anything from Beethoven, Bach, Chopin and Vivaldi to In Flames, Pantera, Winds of Plague, The Absence, Metallica, Megadeth, and The Black Dahlia Murder. This list could go on forever.
Out of the music category, things like horror movies and literature also have their place in our influences. For example, movies like Nightmare on Elm Street and House of 1000 Corpses, or fiction written by H.P. Lovecraft and Poe.
Jordan (guitars)- For guitars I use- Gaskell Classic II explorer, Schecter C-1 Plus and C-7, Ibanez RG550, and an Agile Ghost III explorer. I use a Madison Divinity II for my amp and an Avatar 4x12 with Celestion V30s for my cab. I don't really use any effects except for a Boss Noise Suppressor and an MXR Carbon Copy Delay. All of my guitars are loaded with Seymour Duncan pickups (for the most part a JB in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck).
Justin (bass)- Ibanez basses and a Behringer half stack.
Tom (drums)- A custom Mapex Kit and Zildjian cymbals.
Taylor (vocals)- Shure SM58 vocal mic.
