The Compulsives are a four piece Alt-Rock band who for the past six months have been taking the Liverpool music scene by storm. "pant wetingly entertaining live shows full to the brim with catchy guitar melodies and gut tumbaling greatness", soz mike twaz chris.
Band/artist history
The Compulsives began in 2002, when Olly (drummer) and brother, Chris (guitar/vocals) began to write and record songs together with the intention that they would one day be played live as a band and eventually, true to the words of early song Braindead (Mobile phones are frying our brains/Songs on the radio all sound the same), get some interesting and genuine music on the radio. Although Olly was already engaged with another band, with a passion for drums he decided to leave and take the helm of what was to become The Compulsives. After months of recording songs in a small wooden shed in their back-yard The Compulsives decided to ask Lee Randall a friend for whom theyve known since they were kids to join the band as a guitarist. After saying yes to their proposal, practice began on getting the songs to sound as good as the recordings A few weeks past and The Compulsives had began to push closer to playing as a live band but they still lacked one element, a bassist. By total luck Olly happened to be at a gig in the Hanover Hotel in Liverpool city centre when his attention was taken by a cover band playing Chilli Peppers songs. Knowing that flea (RHCP Bassist) was extremely talented he knew he was in for a treat. After the gig he approached the band and begged the bassist Paul Riley to join his band and after hearing the demo CD he agreed. Now that the line up was complete, The Compulsives decided to invest in a decent rehearsal room so they converted a garage into a sound proof music room to prepare for their first gig in the Zanzibar Night Club. The gig was received very well until certain acts of nudity led to an incident with a bouncer, at which point the gig began to be received extremely well. The Compulsives continued playing gigs until guitarist Lee Randall decided to concentrate fully his university degree leading him to depart the band despite efforts from the band to persuade him to stay. While searching for a suitable replacement The Compulsives decided to take some time out and concentrate on song-writing and getting existing songs professionally recording. 2003 was drawing to an end and The Compulsives needed to find a guitarist who was talented and enjoyed intoxicating fluids. This time it was down to guitarist Chris to pull the rabbit out of the hat by introducing the band to guitarist and pianist Rob Gunning who had left his previous band. With the addition of a talented new guitarist and pianist and an even more determined approach, evident in new songs such as Caught in the Headlights (Were the kings of this place and this is our time/The road is empty the throne is mine), The Compulsives continue to build on a local fan-base and play live in Liverpool music venues, including the Zanzibar
