Mr. John Kavanagh 1960-2009 John Dennis McFarlane Kavanagh 49, of Kentville, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax as the result of an acute asthma attack while snorkeling. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Carolyn (Wright) Kavanagh, Halifax and the late Jerrold Kavanagh Q.C. He was a musician of great wit and heart. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister, Judy Kavanagh; his wife, Mary McFarlane; a son, Andy Kavanagh; step-daughter, Lori Rafuse. We love him dearly. We’ll miss him deeply. For now the Telemann Quartet will continue to play as a trio. The Telemann Quartet is a group of musicians in central Nova Scotia who have been playing and performing together since 1999. We play Baroque and early Classical music for concerts, weddings and receptions, choosing music carefully to suit the occasion. We are based in the Annapolis Valley, but travel the province for engagements. Our current repertoire includes music by Corelli, Mozart, Vivaldi, and Bach, as well as our specialty, the beautiful quartets of George Philipp Telemann, which suit us especially well. This music is light and charming, in the transitional style between Baroque and Classical music.
