Tarab” Raï-Muziekgroep uit Groningen
Biografie
Vanaf 1994 is er een bloeiende Raï-scene in Groningen. In die tijd werd begonnen met de band Raï-One met o.a. Sami El Ghousli (nu in de groep Kasba), Janfie van Strien (nu Amsterdam Klezmerband) Floris Vermeulen (Tarab)en Jeroen van Olphen (Tarab). Dit was een Raï groep die naast de Amsterdamse groep Raïland (met daarin Ahmed Bouhaous, nu in Tarab), progressieve Raï speelde.
Nu Tarab. In moderne Raï zoals die van Tarab is er een combinatie van de westerse manier van muziek maken en de Noord Afrikaanse geïmproviseerde structuren. Door middel van een “liedjes” structuur (couplet/refrein/solo) worden improvisaties doorgevoerd die sterk gerelateerd zijn aan de tekst.
Deze manier van improviseren vertoont naar onze mening veel gelijkenis met de jazzbenadering van improviseren. We improviseren gevoelsmatig.
