Lyrics
Was It Me? By: Scott K. Haskin As I walked up the front steps I heard a chilling scream An echo of a memory from some distant dream I ran inside the house, blood already on my hand I thought I saw a shadow but it was my own man Ran up to the bedroom saw bloodstains in the hall Dark droplets on the carpet where she took a fall She was lying on the floor, her mouth twisted in a scream Something inside told me this just wasn't what it seemed My heart begins to race as I reach for the door Can't stand the thought of seeing her lying on the floor Who was the villain that took away my wife? He beat her then he dragged her and then he took her life Her eyes were wide open, blood running in a stream As she gasped out her last words I thought, 'What could they mean?' She cried out, "How could you? How could you do this to me?" And to my shock and horror, I realized that it was me My heart begins to race as I reach for the door Can't stand the thought of seeing her lying on the floor I was the villain that took away my wife I beat her then I dragged her and then I took her life I jumped in the car, I was now south bound I had to make a getaway to keep from being found Flashing lights behind me as I start to cross the bridge After what I had just done I had no life to live The car sinks further down, deep down in the lake I had no right to do it, her life not mine to take I don't know what possessed me to go and kill my wife Don't know why I wanted her dead but it was not my right Water fills my lungs as I gasp for breath I didn't know today I'd be in the grip of death This horror's almost over, all light turns to black She is gone forever and she's never coming back
