I am posting solo stuff and also with my band 'The Peoples' Friend' for which I am/was the music writer and piano player. Other members include/included Jamie Kelsey (lead vox and lyricist) Jay Starkey (drums) Lewis Perry (guitar) Kirsty Newton (bass, vox) also Jamie Carrol and Paul (both bass) Carla (violin and vox) and assorted string players.
The last band, which is currently on hold, was/is the Peoples' Friend they were formed in 1996 by several mates getting together in a North London studio and improvising along with beatnick poet Jamie Kelsey. Many musicians were involved in the early stages including members of Cardiacs, Linoleum, Mutoid Waste Company and several others who you have also probably not heard of. Eventually the music began to take shape with Steffan K and Jamie Kelsey as the main writers. A production deal was offered at Sawmills Studio in Cornwall by the manager of Muse. Unfortunately the recordings were never finished due in part to overindulgence by key production staff . The band continued performing at venues such as The Barfly, The Garage, Water Rats to an increasingly devoted audience and became something of a cult act with theatrical stage shows and scarfy psychedelic grooves. 'The stuff of childhood nightmares, challenging and really rather good' was the understated response from NME. As one may expect the perpertrators of such unholy and strange music would not be considered by any right thinking person to be stable upstanding citizens of good repute, and the pressures of having to function in a civilized manner took its toll on some of those memers so the band called it a day in 2000 only to return again with original line up in 2005 for a short time until the guitarist left shortly before the reunion gig at Camden's Barfly. With Steffan K now in India on lengthy hiatus and Jamie Kelsey, the only non vegetarian in the band and now raw food vegan teetotaller it may be some time before they are seen again.
