Snowkitten is a solo project which started back in April 2006. It has taken a while for me to figure out just what kind of music I was aiming to write, but that resolved itself early 2007, with a cross between instrumental synthpop and ambient experimental pieces, mainly inspired by synth bands such as Depeche Mode, Iris, early No-man etc, and particularly by Talk Talk. Some of the music is pop/commercial, but often seems to wander into more experimental areas.Band/artist history
I think that was pretty much covered in the introduction. What I will add is that my music is instrumental, mainly as I lack any recording equipment and anything resembling a decent singing voice. However, I've done a few remixes using vocals from the CCMixter website and some remixes for James D Stark and a friend, David Brinkworth.Have you performed in front of an audience?Snowkitten does not play live. Various reasons for that, the obvious being an outright dread of being on-stage, but it is easier all round to take it for granted that it isn't gonna happen. Sorry!
Your musical influences
Mainly synthpop bands, in particular Lights, Owl City, Depeche Mode, VNV Nation and Iris, though I also like many other bands and singers - in particular John Farnham and Magnum. I wouldn't say I'm a massive fan of the 80s, but some of the synthpop bands from that era were amazing, and in particular it is the synth sounds and catchiness of the songs that really inspire me. What I really like is when a band combines the early 80s and late 70s synth sounds with a modern perspective and sound, which is something Iris do especially well. I do also like acoustic guitar, so maybe one day if I have the chance, that might be worked into some songs, but don't hold your breath. And I also enjoy listening to experimental bands such as No-man and Talk Talk, etc which is why sometimes my own songs tend to edge towards more experimental areas, maybe slightly. What equipment do you use?
M-Audio MIDI keyboard and more recently an X5D synth. Everything else is done via PC hardware and fairies.
