Band/artist history
ITS A BOY!!! (A temporary history of SKYWYND according to Michael in the egotistical key of personal narrative.) We grew up playing metal. And if youre serious about playing metal, thats all you play. Everything else is pussy and inferior. So when Walter Joseph and Rich Zasada (former Skywynd drummer and long-time friend) told me they were forming a new band - something different - I figured they meant pussy and inferior. But I was surprised. It was pretty good for being pussy and inferior - especially as a three piece, with Steve B. McClurg (back then a mechanical engineering student) on bass. They played with several different guitar players, went through several different band names (somehow deciding on the unpronounceable Skywind), tried out several different backing vocalists, recorded several different albums (Under Cloud 9 and Rain Songs Live) over a period of several different years and finally, in the spring of 1999, found a group of several different guys with several different opinions that would come together to record the album Oxygen (O2): Walter Joseph (vocals), Brian Adams (guitar), Michael Lannier (synth), Steve B. McClurg (bass) and Rich Zasada (drums). This line-up would stay the same for five years, with many shows and many miles piled under our belts. In the January winter of 2004, Rich Zasada would leave the group. Skywind was now dead. The slow and painful process of death always makes us realize how fast our children grow. When Derek Abrams (long-time childhood friend and former band-mate of my own) joined us as the new drummer, unexpectedly SKYWYND was born and without warning. The fresh meat was now on the table. We wasted no time and started writing a new album. Our first song (Escape Plan) was completed in just over an hour - record time for a band that had written only four songs in the two years prior. With 11 more songs of pure cock rock and avant-garde ambience notched into our bedposts, we continue to write with the enthusiasm of new lovers who just cant seem to hump enough!!! There is still no predictable release date for the album at this time, but just be patient, its coming soon! To be continued -Michael SKYWYND
