Well, my name is Skyler Kevin Holmes but I go by the name Sky K. I'm originally from New York and moved to Australia towards the end of 2006 to try something new and start a new beginining for myself because I believe in challenges and I thought this would be a great challenge.
As for my sound, I call it gumbo. It's like a compilation of different sounds but still stays grimy, respectable, down to earth, fun, and sometimes controvercial, which I think is very important in this business. Some of my songs are more gospel, some hip hop, some r&b, and at times, even rock. I think music allows you to express yourself and there are many sides to Sky K., so I need many types of experssion.
Other than that, I'm your typical, down to earth, easy going kinda guy and that's how I keep my music. I keep it real, I keep it me, and I think that's what makes it interesting. Everything is recorded at home with it's original sound without a studio polishing and I do that purposely to be free to be me and to let all the listeners know, it's ok no to be perfect or miss a key...it's life and more importantly, it's reality.

At that point it's a feeling I can't describe. But everyone will tell you, it takes a while for me to get up there but when I'm there it's all good. In fact, my boy Mo is the guy I look up to cause at any moment he will jump up anywhere and give a great performance and I really respect him for that.
My special moments would be when my boys Mo, Bobby, and I would do kareokee together at the local bars and clubs. Mo would be the first to go up, then I'd go if Bobby went, and when we were up there we just had a lot of fun and never wanted to get back down. Those were actually some of the greatest times of my life. If you guys read this, I love you both like my own family.
Your musical influences
My influences really vary. I love Missye aka Missy E, Ciara, Timbaland, Aaliyah (rest her soul), NIN, American Rejects, MXPX, Tweet, Genuwine, John Legend, 702, Cherish, George Michael, Mike and Janet Jackson, Anthony Hamilton, Michael Buble, Billy Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Marvin Gaye, Monica, and the list goes on and on.
I think my music is quite a mixture of different things which is why I consider it gumbo. I have jazz, gospel, hip hip and rap, r&b, soul, alternative, poetry, an so on, and it's all me. When there' s a rap line, it's me, when it's a gospel segment, it's me, and the yelling and roaring in the rock songs is no one but me and I don't think many people can say that. I'm very proud to be blessed with such gifts and I feel that if you don't share your gifts, what's the point of having them.What equipment do you use?
Standard Computer Software to make it simply me and simply defined....and by standard I mean Garage Band for mac. I feel it's a great program to having fun yet at the same time staying real without the final polishing so people can hear what's really going on.Anything else?
Lastly, I would like to add that I'm a real kinda guy. No glam, no special equipment, just a humble guy trying to do his thing. If you see me walking the streets of Melbourne say hi, if you're at the bar and I walk in, we can grab a drink, and if you just want someone to talk to, drop me a line. I love good conversation and I've been around so I have many of my own good decisions and miseducations.
