Band/artist history
Charles Cary, a.k.a. Sir Charles, has performed at most local churches in the New York Tri-State area; The Harlem State Building, Citicorp Center, Lincoln Center, New York Port Authority, Bankers Trust and Grants Tomb. A native Washingtonian, Sir Charles has been actively singing since his youth. He started singing with contemporary and traditional gospel groups in the mid to late seventies. His family has been in music for many years. Sir Charles, as he later would be known, joined a band called "Free" (based in the Bronx.) They performed at block parties, clubs, discos, and dances, worked in the studio and performed music for people's enjoyment. Sir Charles performed with The Free Band and many other groups as a lead singer during the late eighties. All throughout the years while singing in church, Charles had a burning desire to sing the songs of his era from many of his favorite artists. In later years he would sing with and meet artists such as, Jocelyn Brown (Somebody else Guy), Freddie Jackson (You are My Lady), and Paul Lawrence Jones (Hush Productions-Capitol Records). Through his best friend Carlton Jenkins, Sir Charles met Russell Patterson, Stuart Bascombe of Black Ivory fame. D-Train keyboardist and independent producer Fred McFarland eventually became great encourager to Sir Charles.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I love performing live, especially with a live band. I do track dates, but nothing beats live performances. I perform in the DC Metro area.
