Sinister Jake and the Fatties, popularly known as SJ+F, joined together May 3rd, 2006. They got the name Sinister Jake and the Fatties from a band name making website, from the original idea of Jake and the Fatties. The original members of the band were: "Sinister" Jake, David, and Trevor. They had the plan to record some songs just for fun. Phillip Foster made an unreleased song with Jake, Trev, and David, and after that he was made an honorary fatty. At first the "Big 3", as David, Trev, and Jake like to refer to themselves, had no intentions of making the band into a 4 person group. After a while though, they decided that Phillip would be a great asset to the group.
Once the band lineup had been set in stone, the "Epic 4" as they grew to be called, decided it was time to hit the studio. They recorded a few songs, like the Intro Rap, but that was almost before Phillips time. Once the 4 started real song making, the magic began. They experimented with other Honorary Fatties, but realized that they had already assembled the greatest 4some in music history as it was, so they were dropped.
SJ+F's original hit was "The System is Down" which featured a series of mixed tracks that formed a "techno" style song. This was an early success for the band, and they carried on to record more songs.
The next venture for SJ+F was the classic, "Jaso Song". It was the TRUE story of a friend of the band's woman woes. This song quickly gained popularity as did SJ+F.
The band started to record a series of "Skits" that were conversations between David and Phillip that had been doubled in speed to make them sound like babies. These skits were also moderate successes.
The first SJ+F song with a real beat or really any music, was titled "Reppin'", and featured SJ+F's first guest artist. This song became the bands biggest song to that point in time. It consisted of a very simple beat with all the verses reversed. This gives the illusion of the rapping forwards, but the lyrics are indistinguishable. This song was a landmark for the band for 2 reasons. 1. because it marked the beginning of the use of real music for the band, and 2. It was the first mention in a song of the nickname "SJ+F".
After that Smash-Hit, the band enlisted the help of their manager to sing their next single. That was titled "Turducken Day". It was to the tune of O' Tannenbaum, which was the first real SJ+F parody song. It was good also because the song had completely orignal lyrics. The song quickly grew in popularity and is one of the biggest hits to date, despite criticism from some fans. The song remains a favorite of every member of the band, and the 4 can often be heard singing it when together
The next single was titled "How The Fatties Beat The Devil". This song was a pretty creative song for SJ+F because it was long and featured a variety of different aspects from talking to "guitar riffs". The song was not a huge hit though, because it suffered comparison to the Tenacious D song "Tribute". The song was based on "Tribute", but differed in several ways. The song never really took off, but the band members definetly considered it a success.
After the release of "How The Fatties Beat The Devil", SJ+F decided it was finally time to release their first album. In December of 2006 Sinister Jake and the Fatties released their first album entitled: "You Have No Idea". The album was a huge success, because it actually sold some copies.
SJ+F planned to take a break from the song making for a while after the release of "You Have No Idea", but the "Greatest Band in the World" as they are often referred to, couldn't stay away for long.
In late January of 2007 the band made their triumphant return with their newest parody. It is titled "Over There", and is a parody of "When The Saints Go Marching In". It was an instant success, with several of the bands myspace friends actually adding the songs to their profiles. It was also the first song released by SJ+F using their newest recording software. The new recording studio program allowed for much better quality of tracks, and was the start of a new era of SJ+F recording.
This song was quickly followed up by the song "Rock The Block" which displayed the individual skills of every member of the band in a Rock and Roll Style. That song is currently the bands fastest growing Hit.
Next on the agenda was a new skit. Jake Karnes had recently been elected President of Rolling Hills. The skit "Power Crazy" was a joke about the power of presidency going to Jakes head. It featured 2 impromptu songs, and 2 great rants by Sinister Jake.
Around the same time as "Power Crazy" was recorded and released, David received a new Apple G5 computer. This computer ushered in a new era of quality for SJ+F songs. David began experimenting with "Garage Band". Shortly after, the bands best (musical) quality song was released. The song "Technotronic Tacos". This song has an odd, dance style beat, featuring some synthesizers. The song has become on of the more popular SJ+F songs. Also, it has become the New SJ+F signature song. People recognize the song and often mention it when talking about SJ+F. "Technotronic Tacos" is SJ+F's biggest hit. It is the first and only SJ+F song to reach 1200 plays, and recently (8/20/07) hit and surpassed the 2000 play mark.
SJ+F took a short break from recording for a little while after that. GGP had a to work on the play at Westmont, and TD had baseball, so the song making took a back seat for a little while. One day, however, David was struck with inspirado that he could not pass up. A very different type of SJ+F song is the result of said inspirado. The song is titled "GOD! GOD! GOD! GOD!" and is a loving parody of Christian Rock songs. It features vocals by David, that were deepened to produce the desired effect. It is a relatively quick growing song, but has yet to surpass any records.
Next came, "Nude Love" (4/22/07). It was a cover of a song from the brilliant movie: Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters. It was sung by GGP, and featured guitar. In just one day, the song surpassed the 100 play mark, making it the quickest growing song to date.
In early late May 2007, a new song was released. It was composed and played by Phillip Foster (GGP) with assistance from Sinister Jake. It was a very well made song, but not a stereotypical SJ+F song. It was not an upbeat song, and did not feature lyrics. It is a favorite among the band, but did not grow as fast as expected. This is due, in large part, to the releasing of the more popular new song, "Burritos"
The next SJ+F song is titled, "Burritos". It was released in early June 2007. It grew relatively quickly, considering it was not advertised very heavily. It features a beat by Jee Juh Productions. It was written by Brock Baker (aka the man of 101 voices) at www.myspace.com/brockvoicesbaker. The guys saw the lyrics in a bulletin posted by Brock himself, and couldn't pass up doing a rap about their official group favorite food. Brock gave them permission to use the song, and the rest is tasty history.
The next song released is titled "On The Rocks". It features another Jee Juh Beat, and is the first of the fan-written songs. It was written by Roxxy and Noah Tuttle. It has since been taken off of the profile.
Before the releasing of, "We're Huge In Norway", SJ+F announced the addition of a new "Honorary Fatty". His name is Robbie Zizak, and despite being a soccer fan and player, he is a huge SJ+F fan, and a good friend of the band. The band intends to collaborate with him for songs, and movies in the future. Also added as an "Honorary Fatty" was AJ Cazares. He has not been featured yet, but is a great friend to the members of the band.
Shortly after "On The Rocks" was released, SJ+F announced the releasing of their 2nd album entitled "We're Huge In Norway". The album features 19 tracks, and is a huge contrast to the quality and technology used in the first album, "You Have No Idea". The album features a secret song, David says that will be true for all their albums.
Just as they had planned after the release of "You have no Idea", SJ+F planned to take a break from recording, but once again they didn't stop for long. About a week later they decided to record a song they had been planning for a while...
On July 27, 2007 SJ+F released two brand new tracks that will be featured on their next album. The tentative title for the new album is "Do What Now?". The 2 newest songs released were, "Soccer Sniper", and "Trevor Sings Da Hits"
"Trevor Sings Da Hits" is based on Trevor's real life habit of placing his own name into many real songs. To make the song, David collected a bunch of beats to popular songs, many of which Trevor actually has been known to sing. They let Trevor do his own lyrics and a classic was made. The song is done in the style of a commerical. At the end, another advertisment is made, that part involves David on vocals, and Jake playin guitar.
"Soccer Sniper" is a song based on the entire group's hatred of soccer. The name came from a mouse pad designed by David, that features a soccer ball in cross hairs. The song features a Jee Juh beat, and vocals by David, Jake and Phillip. The intro is done by Jake and David speaking with lisps and a higher pitch on their voice. Many sound effects are also found in the song. During the chorus, David has 2 mini-rants against soccer.
During the summer of 2007 SJ+F received a great gift from their manager/mentor Pat Myers. The group was given a brand new microphone to record on. The quality compared to the old mic cannot even be compared. This completely revolutionized the way SJ+F makes music. The music is now all recorded on David's Mac, as opposed to Jake's PC. Using this equipment SJ+F began to move toward a new era of music-making.
"Aeroplane" was the first song released. The main point of this song was a test of the Garage BandHave you performed in front of an audience?Never played live yet. Fan interest isn't strong enough yet. Would be fun though. We are actually to the point now where we might actually have enough material to play live SOME day.
