Signe Miranda's Veranda

Toronto-based Signe Miranda's Veranda release their sophomore album, “September Night” with a cross-Canada tour. The group is led by singer/songwriter Signe Miranda and includes a revolving cast of talented musicians who blend together a sound that seamlessly brings you on a journey from post-break-up, alt-pop-punk title track, “September Night” to warm, spacious, alt-country gem, “Like It Was Yesterday”.

This follow-up to Signe's solo “Love Wins” EP, explores a wider array of themes, styles and sonic lushness, with producer/musician Brian Allossery (The Lazy Poets) at the helm. Brian fills out the rhythm section on bass, alongside drummers Cleave Anderson (The Screwed, John Borra Band), Jamie Tanner and Dave Edie, with a variety of guests lending their talents to the project Dominic von Riedemann, Dan A. Noonan, Peter Nunn (Honeymoon Suite, Andy Kim), Bob Egan (Blue Rodeo), J.V. Dixon, Ben D'Cunha, Chris Smith and Mario del Monte.

Band/artist history

In January of 2001 Signe met Stu Stout (of the Patients) and Tony Hamilton at Graffiti's open stage in Toronto. They asked if she would like to form a band with them and play a show. The line-up was Signe Miranda (guitar/vocals), Stu Stout (bass) and Tony Hamilton (percussion). The first show was at Rancho Relaxo on March 8th, 2001, with The Patients, Tony Hamilton and John Whitaker. Tony came up with the band name after a few months.

Mark Roberts: drums (October 2001 to December 2001)

Dietrich Sider: bass (November 2001 to April 2003), also played lead guitar at a show in September, 2001

We don't sound much like our influences.

Signe started out listening to Blue Rodeo, Crowded House, Nirvana, Treble Charger, Greenday, Weezer, Bryan Adams, Sloan, The Police, Danny Michel, etc., a lot of Canadian music. Since moving to Toronto, she has been influenced by many local indie acts, such as Jeff Stone, Jason Lapidus, The Kindly Ones, Luke Doucet and many other bands.
