Shuteyeview was formed by four people from four different bands (Mush Carnival, Gene Pool, Formula Juan, Brown Session) uniting to form a distinct brand of music with simple melodies and earnest rhymes. The ball started rolling when Emman Paras contacted PJ Strebel, his long-time friend and fellow musician at the Ateneo Student Catholic Action Group to form a new group. PJ is a professor of Philosophy at the Ateneo, and is the bassist of a group of Ateneo professors, Gene Pool. Emman then contacted JB Potenciano, the drummer of defunct band Mantra, a La Salle-based band which used play alongside Mush Carnival. But due to business priorities, JB had to beg off and was replaced by Jay de Quiros, the drummer of Formula Juan and Sideshow. Then came lead guitarist Tony to complete the four-member group.
The group had their first jam session in July 5, 2006 and had its first gig at Gweilos Eastwood on August 5, 2006 with a set of five original songs. The band name Shuteyeview is derived from the email address of Tony and denotes how to really see music: with eyes shut.
Shuteyeview is a part of Bandwagon Productions, which is a group of six bands touring the popular venues in the Metro. The group has played at Gweilos Eastwood, Magnet, Saguijo, Belas Bar, Caliente and 6 underground. They had their first mall performance at the Duty Free Fiestamall. They recently performed at the Breakfast Show at Studio 23 last January 4.
The band has already accomplished a 5-song clean demo recording, and will record three album-quality songs for the planned compilation album of Bandwagon Productions. They have more songs in the works and also perform covers of U2 and Coldplay.
No image, no fashion statement, no hype. Just music that seeks to create a common ground with everyone whos willing to listenthis is what Shuteyeview is all about.
