Sherman Hunter’s musical career began at the age of six, when he was chosen to sing in the adult church choir. Members of the choir were impressed with his singing voice at such an early age. Sherman was influenced by gospel greats Rev James Cleveland, Dixie Hummingbirds, and The Mighty Clouds of Joy. At the age of ten, Sherman began taking guitar lessons. Sherman continued his musical venture by joining a rhythm and blues band at the age of eighteen. Sherman’s guitar playing is influenced by legends Wes Montgomery, George Benson, B.B. King, Albert King and Carlos Santana. Sherman has performed with contemporary artists KC and The Sunshine Band, David Hudson, William Bell, John Edwards of the Spinners, Bennie Lattimore, Jimmy Bohorn, Little Beaver, and Timmy Thomas. Sherman Hunter and his band were the opening act for O V Wright and Joe Simon. Sherman signed with labelmates KC and The Sunshine Band and Jimmy Bohorn under the TK Disco label owned by Henry Stone.
