Band/artist history
HISTORY (read if bored) I want to preface this tale by saying that I am horrible w/ remembering certain dates, so some of my accounts may be very off as far as correct time periods, but that's not really the important thing here. Also this is my account, I'm sure some of the other guys may see it differently. And Please excuse my spelling For me it all started in 1996 when I was watching the MTV video music awards and Dennis Miller said "Live from underneath the Brooklyn bridge, you wanted the best you got the best IT"S KISS!!!!." That exact moment in time is when Senior Citizen started, that moment is when I discovered rock-n-roll's impact on my life. When I watched KISS for the first time I pretty much knew what I wanted to, I wanted to be KISS, and I still do. I know that probably sounds pretty far fetched for everyone else to know, but I have set myself up for nothing less. To clarify, when I say I want to be KISS, that doesn't exactly mean I want to be playing stadiums and arenas for the rest of my life, it means that I want to take music and my life as far as I possibly can and never settle for anything or limit myself to anything. Back then I didn't really think all that through but it definitely lit the match that ended up becoming a fire inside me. Pretty soon after discovering KISS, I wanted to play the guitar, so my mom bought me a guitar and Charlie a Bass and 1 amp that we both played out of. We began taking lessons w/ C.R Pendleton at metronome music, and took lessons for about a year or 2. Whenever I was home alone or just in the basement alone I would set up a music stand and pretend It was a microphone, get my guitar, put on a KISS live album and pretend that I was playing in front of thousands of people, using couches and chairs as stage props and jumping all around and going through the whole cd and taking all Paul Stanley's parts, sing his songs and play his guitar part. Once I learned how to play a little I switched from faking KISS songs to playing along w/ AC/DC CD's. I learned a few AC/DC songs and figured a few others out and just played them over until I could take the rhythm part of the entire song, that to me was very fulfilling at the time. I'm trying to stray from just telling about my life, but I think it's important to know where I came from musically in the past that brought me to being in this band and playing what I do now. When I entered the 9th grade I think was the real turning point for everything and essentially the making of this band. By the time I was in the 9th grade I was way more open to different types of music and not just KISS and a handful of other classic rock bands. It's also where I met 4 very important individuals, Eric Barker, Kent Sliney, Ryan Stockbridge, and Tommy Talarico. Tom and Ryan became my best friends and we used to all kinds of crazy things together, one thing we like to do was go to Kroger at like 7 in the morning on a Saturday or Sunday and just watch and make fun of old people. One time one of mentioned how "senior citizen" would be a cool band name and how if we ever started a band that's what it would be called. Tommy started playing guitar that year and still to this day, I've never seen anyone catch onto music so quickly, he was playing solos pretty soon after he started. Eric Barker was a character I ran into the summer before 9th grade, although back then I thought he was retardedliterally. I actually thought this kid was mentally handicapped for whatever reason. I later found out during the school year that he was actually pretty cool, he was into the same music I was and played guitar so he was alright in my book. We became friends pretty quick and then I was at his house playing guitar w/ him. Both being into music and guitar we had the idea that every kid in the world has these days "lets start a band" but we wanted to. Kent Sliney was a kid that I met in9th grade and hated. For 3 years I had worn chuck taylors and then all the sudden I come to cline ave. and this guys got 'em on too, he stole my fucking fire!!! At least that's what I thought. Then in Spanish class he took the Spanish name that I wanted "nacho" so I had even more reason to not like this kid. Later that year we ended up kind of joining forces in the fight against back street boys, which is kind of how I became such good friends w/ Ryan too. Our history class was very divided, we had all the preppy girls who liked BSB and all the rock kids too, so we would put different posters on the wall and have long arguments about music, it was rather fun actually. I can't remember if it was 9th or 10th grade, I think 10th though, but me and eric went to go watch a friends band play at a garage. The band that played first was the delinquents, with kent on drums. Pretty much they sucked but at least we knew someone who played drums. We asked kent if he would be interested in being in another band and he said yes so we "auditioned" him if you will. We thought he was horrible and didn't want him to play w/ us. I don't remember if we played w/ anyone else but I know we couldn't find anyone to play so a year or so, probably as little less goes by and here we are w/ no real band. We had me and Eric on guitar and Ryan Stockbridge on bass (who recently had learned how to play) So we were talking about what we could do and we decided to give Kent another try b/c we didn't know anyone else who played drums and we all liked him a lot as a person so we gave the ol' test. We went over to his house, jammed and it wasn't great but it was cool and we thought "whatever, lets start this band" so we did. Around this time I also met a guy named Ryan Stone who actually almost joined the fold as our drummer before we decided to go w/ kent. At the time he was in a band called "blankface" and we didn't really want some part time guy we wanted a full on drummer. Kent was still in the delinquents but we knew he wanted out of that and that it wasn't that serious. We started practicing over at erics house and I kind of became the singer as a default because no one else really wanted to. We had to let Ryan Stockbridge go because he was more focused on other things and never really wanted to practice. He's still my best friend though and will always seem like a part of the band, just like Tommy who had to move back to his native Italy when I was in the 10th grade, Tommy still has a spot in senior citizen if he ever returns to America. If that ever happens there will be no stopping us.NONE!!! So now we needed a Bass Player. I remember sitting in my kitchen talking to my mom about how we need a bass player and Charlie smiling and saying "I'll play bass for you guys" and kinda laughing it off as a joke, which I did too. I don't remember when it was but I finally asked him if he'd seriously want to join SC and he said yeah. (on a side note we're now into the 11th grade) So now the line-up was in tactJeff, Charlie, Eric and Kent. We started learning "braking the law" by judas priest and "blitzkrieg bop" by the ramones to start out. Pretty soon we had some originals too, our first was "paradise" then "you're gonna hate us" then "little biut longer" and so onWe played live for the first time in the 2001 I believe. We played to some people at a bar at Frank Medleys Jam night at the time out on laver rd (we have it on film, who knows maybe some day that'll surface, but probably not) Back then we were kinda gimmicky (and I guess theres a part of us that always will be) But we all had band names (except Charlie, who refused to) I was Mongo McPrice, Eric was Thrash n Bash, and Kent was Patty Luxembourg. I also used to do this stupid thing at all our shows that makes me slap myself now but it was cool at the time (for me at least b/c I like 80's metal) but I would wear a pair of tear away pants and rip them off at every gig and have like spandex pants underneath and I would jump off the stage at the time out when we played. And kinda got a reputation as being the 'crazy man" which I guess I'm not so much anymore which is kind of sad, but it's not really who I am anymore. Around this time we met another local band "no nothing generation" who had Ryan Stone playing with them. They pretty much became our local band brothers, we'd always play shows w/ them and became good friends w/ the guys. After gigging around for awile we decided to start thinking about maybe putting out a cd. Charlie met this guy at college who ran black label society's fan site and was trying to record bands named Deege Dunford, who we call "uncy Dan". He had never recorded a full band so we kinda got lucky and he did our first cd for free to get the experience. Recording our first cd was a very fun experiment for us. We had a lot of fun experimenting w/ what we can actually do in a studio. Around the same time we met a band called 'eclipse the sky" who I thought were complete jackasses except for their bass player. We ended up doing a north lake show w/ them and I actually met them for real and realized that they were really alright guys. After that it was SC/NNG/ETS all the way, we were pretty un-separable as bands. (Side note. We're now into our senior year of high school) We eventually finished our CD and named it "fike off" after another one of my best friends Chris Collins who we called "fike." (this is the point where I'm real bad w/ timing b/c I can't remember what happened first and what not) I want to talk about Fike off for a little bit. Back then we really hadn't developed a certain sound for our band. We were all coming for 4 very different places musically so that album is all over the place, but as much as I don't talk about that cd I'm very proud of it. I was proud that we did it, It was like we were a real band now, we play shows and have a cd!! Around this time was when we heard about a contest the "rock-n-roll high school contest" It was a contest put on by Z98 for high school bands and the winner
