In combining the roots of rock, the soul of the blues and the honesty of punk, these diverse musicians have created a brand of rock and roll that's a sound all on its own, a tight band that plays powerful aggressive Rock 'n' Roll.
Band/artist history
In the early spring of 1995 Josh Jacobson met Scotty Saturn through an ad in a local newspaper. The two began the long search for the right players. After tryout after tryout, the band was formed. The band spent the next three months practicing a few dozen cover-songs and ventured out on the road to get their feet wet. August 12th, 1995, Scratch played at the Queen's Hotel in Carleton Place, Ontario. The locals were anxious to hear what this band had to play. The show went off without a hitch. The crowd enjoyed the show so much that the band had to start repeating songs. When the night was done and over, the band went on to enjoy the rest of the night in the true rock style. After about a year of playing strictly cover, the band tried its hand at writing. Scratch's original sound began to take form. The true test of their music came when they won the Crackers 2000 and Olympus Studios band wars in early 1998. The bands success continued as they played all the local bars and clubs carefully crafting the sound of Scratch. After entering and winning several different competitions they entered a local studio, where they recorded the "Scratch In The Review" EP. After another year of playing the band decided to drop cover-music all together. The re-entered the scene as the all original Scratch. After playing out and about for several months with some of Ottawa's up and coming bands such as Machine Gun Kelly, Big Jeesuz Truck and Photo Perfume, the band was soon on their way to recording a full length CD. Just as the band entered the pre-production stages for a CD to be released in the fall of 1999, the drummer decided to leave the band. Josh and Scott were left with the task of pushing through and finding another drummer that would fit into the game plan. After auditioning a drummer after drummer, the 2 were about to give-up, when Chris Evans responded to an ad the band left on a local music website. After rehearsing through the winter in Chris's home studio, the band was happy with the newer sound the band was starting to take on. The new sound was a "tighter than ever" groove based rock. Chris brought an element to the band that had been missing for a long time. The band wrote several new songs while re-working the older song into a great live set. In mid 2000, Julien, the Flash, joined the band as the lead guitarist. The sound of Scratch matured yet again as the Flash's ripping leads filled the music with a kind of saucy attitude that the music needed. Soon after Scratch entered the studio to record their long awaited full length CD. The CD is scheduled to be released in the spring 2001.
Your musical influences
All four members write both music and lyrics for the band. Each musician brings an independent sound that, when combined, creates a new, dynamic musical resonance. Scott's deep-bedded lust for punk and Chris' passion for high-spirited music keeps the rhythms strong. Scratch has varied influences from 70's Glam Rock to 90's Alternative. Combined this produces the sound of "Scratch". Their approach to the music is no nonsense and straight to the point rock n roll. The band believes in ditching the contrived anger in favor of streetwise attitude, and rowdy barroom fun. The overall sound can be described as driving rhythms of crunchy guitar and punchy bass (A cross between The Sex Pistols, Metallica, Monster Magnet, Creed and The Smashing Pumpkins.
