Alternative Hip Hop

I'm Scott known to some as Scottie. I hail from Charlotte, the Queen City, thus the name Scottie Royal was spawned. I first started making hip hop beats in early 2005 towards the end of high school, initially inspired by many of the usual suspects (e.g. Pete Rock, DJ Premier, 9th Wonder) and eventually coming to be inspired by many other artists like the Roots, J Dilla, and 20 Syl. Over the years my beats have progressed from primarily being made up of samples to being primarily made up of original instrumentation. The backbone of Hip Hop was built on sampling so I try to stay true to that sound with my creations (I still take the time to add a sample or two in most beats!). As a lover of music I definitely have a variety of musical influences from hip hop to alternative rock to jazz. - One of sixteen contestants in IWWMGs Gladiator Beat Battle in 2011 (over 300 entries) - One of two producers not on Jamlas Soul Council to appear on Actual Proofs Still Hotter Than July
