Scholar Green were formed in 2002 and specialise in short bursts of power pop. Originally from Stoke-on-Trent, the band are now based in London, and can often be found trading cakes with tramps at the wrong end of Brick Lane.
Band/artist history
Mike and Matt used to play in a band in Stoke when they were teenagers, and Will played in a band that they used to support. Fast forward 10 years, and they all meet up to talk about lower league football, real ale, early-nineties indie, and play the occasional gig.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play as often as we can be bothered, to the irritation of our manager. Our favourite venue at the moment is The Metro, on Oxford Street. Our dream is to be the resident band at the Archway Tavern, though, or maybe the Bull & Gate.
Your musical influences
People say we sound like early REM and Husker Du. Our influences are early 90s indie from both sides of the Atlantic, before Oasis came along and ruined it all.
What equipment do you use?
As little as possible. We are probably the least equipped band in London.
