She is raunchy and regal, forceful and lax. Powerhouse vocalist Sarah Mcglynn mesmerizes as she leads her trio in intuitive improvisational soundscapes that skirt the borders of their collective backgrounds in jazz, blues, hip hop, and bebop. A native of the Ottawa Valley, she is a three-time recipient of the Noreen Young Bursary for musical excellence. As lead singer for the 20-piece Denny Christianson Studio Big Band, Mcglynn has previously performed in concert at Roy Thompson Hall, as well as at the Montreal Festival of Music for Upcoming Jazz Artists, for over 1500 people. She has also performed with jazz legend Michael Brecker. Mcglynn often cites Cassandra Wilson, Bobby McFerrin, and William Parker as influences to her highly musical approach. The Ash Groove Trio, an eclectic group which evolved out of mutual performance classes at Torontos Humber College, regularly performs bluesy, groove-based variations of jazz standards with energetic spoken word and improvisational breakdowns. The trio is tight, funky, and playful onstage.
