Alex is just 15 and has been making music and composing since he was quite small, but only since he got his Korg synthesiser as a chrismas present in 1999 did he start to create complete tracks. He then went on and made his first CD, this was published just before his 14th birthday. Alex is a grammar schoolboy in Canterbury. He was born in Chatham in 1986 and lived in the Netherlands for a while, but moved back to the UK with his family in 1994. Since he was very small Alex has played music on piano, harpsichord, organ, violin, and has only in the last couple of years moved into electronic music. He has also been involved with classical music, i.e. assisted with classical organ recordings at Rochester Cathedral. Alex started formal piano lessons at the age of 7 and has composed from a very young age, when it became clear he was musically gifted. His violin lessons started aged 10. Although learning fast and reaching grades for piano and violin, he stopped formally studying classical instruments around the age of 13. This was round about the time he got his electronic Korg synthesizer Christmas 1999 and ever since then he has continually worked hard on new compositions. Alex is now working on new material for new tracks and this took over.Alex would like to do well with his CD(s) in the hope that these will finance more new acquisitions of music equipment to enhance his home studio set-up.
Band/artist history
Alex made his debut CD album Xtreme Synthesis in 2000 and spent a good part of a year on it. It consists of 11 tracks all created and was recorded by Alex (alone) and completed while still 13. All the tracks are Alexs own original compositions made with his X5D Korg synthesizer (no pre-constructed loops), home PC, audio software and Yamaha XW60XG soundcard.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
: No. That's why I need money, so I can get the right kit for playing live. Its a nice thought, but for the time being, I'm just going to have to stick to what I've got
Your musical influences
: I've been influenced by many electronic artists, some from mp3.com in fact. I like Basic, The Cynic Project, Trance Control, Trance_Central, Astral Projection, and many more. I like to listen to trance of all kinds, and through Astral Projection, I have discovered Psytrance and Goa. I would possibly like to do some music from these genres later on. They make great disco tracks!
What equipment do you use?
It all started around a Korg X5D, and a Yamaha SW60XG which was all I used for the first album. The SW60XG is no longer any good. Its too noisy, and my new computer does not have any available slots! :( After, I bought a Korg EA-1, and a Korg ER-1, and a Behringer MX2004A to mix them with! I love them to bits, the sound quality is so good, and I have already used it all in my new tracks. To compensate for hardware, I use a software synth called AXS, luckily freeware. Its not a bad little synth capable of entry level analog modeling. I have used this in my two new tracks. The problem is the sounds are too weak, and the reverb is crap! That is all I have really up to date, but recently I played on a demo of Propeller heads Reason, which I am sold by. It has such a fantastic sound, and such versatility. If I can get 300 bux in the bank I'm gonna get Reason sure enough. This will mean better synths, better pads, and for the first time, sampling! Maybe for the future I'm going to go more for hardware synths, more ideal for live performances and my favourite way of working, the 'hands on' approach. There's nothing better than a real set of knobs sitting in front of you ready for you to tweak. This is one of the reasons why I love the Korg EA-1 and ER-1. I hate doing this with a mouse!
Anything else?
Nope, that's just about everything I can think of at the moment
