Russ Gurney's Blues on Tap.....Guitarist, singer, arranger, and leader. Russ Gurney is the only original proponent of Blues on Tap but the band continues with the help of Drummer extrodinare Bill Gailbraith (esquire), Russ is a current master student of legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli (Johnny Carson’s Chair Guitarist). Previously Russ studied with Joe Cinderella (CBS Orchestra Guitarist.) Currently along with teaching guitar(Privately and at the School of Rock East in "Hackensack NJ, Bergen County") Russ frequently performs with "Blues On Tap" throughout the NY- NJ Tri-State Area. Recently Russ is featured on the latest Silk City Records compelation Urban Legends performing his rendition of Horace Silvers Sister Sadie. Can be contacted at Rguitar103@aol.com

Have you performed in front of an audience?

Russ Gurney’s Blues on Tap was a finalist in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis (2001). While in Germany the band was featured in the Frankfurt and Hanau Jazz Kellers (Jazz Cellar),(a hot spot for local and international Jazz and Blues). The group was also a favorite at the Weinheim and Heidelburg Blues festivals. As musical director of the Night Train Band (NTB) (Caprice Recording Artists)Russ prepared and executed the bands first and second major shows (opening up for the Marshall Tucker Band at the Crown Coliseum. Also with the NTB, they were featured Artists at 2003 King Eagle Music Awards (Nashville) and the Nashville Country Music Show Case 2002 (hosted by Charley Ray). Currently along with teaching guitar(Privately and at the School of Rock East in "Hackensack NJ, Bergen County") Russ frequently performs with "Blues On Tap" throughout the NY- NJ Tri-State Area. Your musical influences

Russ has played guitar for over 35 years, with a strong concentration of Jazz, Blues, and R+B.Influences are John McGlaughlin, George Benson, BB King, Jeff Beck, Thelonius Monk and Charlie Parker, Guitarist Buckey Pizzarelli,Harold Lieberman: Head of the Music Department of Ramapo College, and Vibraphonist Malachi Sharpe.

What equipment do you use?

3 Strats, 2 1990 vintage Strats, 1 Fender plus: blond with rosewood finger board w/ aboloney markers, one Sea foam green fat strat w/rosewood finger board, one 2005 Eric Johnson model. A 1973 twin reverb together with my Frankenstein pedal board (Boss ME50,Vox Wah, Vox Big Ben overdrive,Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, MXR Wylde overdrive, Ibanez powerlead)
