MAY/JUNE 2011: New songs and hardly any time to load them...feel a little out of touch and out of the swing, but I've been busy with my other band in "real time", URGENT FURY. Doing new tracks, prepping an album for later this year and planning to record in NY in the summer!! This has sort of put ROPE BURNS on a back burner, but still plenty of songs to upload soon!!

ABRAHAM RODRIGUEZ is the founding member of URGENT FURY, a New York City Hardcore Punk band(1982-1992). In ten years, the band played out with groups like A.P.P.L.E., MARGINAL MAN, US CHAOS, FALSE PROPHETS, VIRUS and others in the old New York scene. Put out a couple of demo tapes, a split single and a 10" album. There is an URGENT FURY webpage:

www.myspace.com/urgentfury616. He is also the author of 4 books, including his latest novel, SOUTH BY SOUTH BRONX from Akashic Books.

Band/artist history

It was punk music that made me pick up a guitar. I was a rock kid all the way through but when punk came, it seemed the music I was waiting for all my life. I formed a group in 1980 called WHITE RIOT, and two years later I started URGENT FURY. My commitment to FURY lasted 10 years and by that time I was yearning to do other things---my band had become very limiting---my influences were always diverse and wide, rock, pop, heavy Beatles & Stones phases, reggae, even some country & folk music. my style, melodic though sometimes I find myself in rebellion. After breaking up FURY I disappeared into my 4 track. That little machine brought me a grand freedom & that's a freedom I enjoy RIGHT NOW and even better to enjoy that with people!!

Have you performed in front of an audience?

Abraham: The band has not played as such. I have been carting around the old acoustic, though, doing open mikes, playing parties...the thing about forming a band for me is that after so many years of being in bands, I refuse to form one unless I can truly say I love to play with these people. It has to be with people I really get off playing with. "ROPE BURNS" is now approaching the point where the right people are stepping in to make the music real...but it has to be fun, a joy to play, and playing live is always a blast...

Your musical influences

The songwriters who really turn me on: Anton Newcombe(Brian Jonestown Massacre), Robert Pollard (Guided By Voices), Kurt Cobain (Nirvana), Kim Deal (Pixies, Breeders), Tobin Sprout(Guided By Voices), Bob Dylan, Tim Wheeler(Ash), Robyn Hitchcock, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, (this list will continue to grow, it's just the start, man)

What equipment do you use?

For this newer stuff I have moved from old 4-tracks to my MacBook Pro's GARAGEBAND music studio. I play guitars, bass, piano, synthesizer, melodica, some harmonica, bongoes and a few other percussive items, and an Alessis drum machine.

Anything else?
