The high echo of a flute takes you dancing from the deep jungle to the tops of the volcanoes.The music is based on the theory that we are bound for a tropical paradise. I really cant say what style it is exactly, because it seems like every tune has its own life and can sound like anything, but your feet will move and your mind will travel. The basic approach is kind of visual. What we want to do is to transport people into different levels of consciousness and different places in the mindscape, and make them dance at the same time. You just have to fill in the visuals
The current CD, Mambo Balam, is a mix of music written over the last year and played with three different sets of musicians. There are a couple of sweet Latin jazz instrumental pieces, some Rock music from this years live concert band, some crazy oriental Latino pieces written on a trip to Thailand, a modern big band tune, some Rap in Spanish, some nice instrumental modern jazz pieces, and some other hallucinations. As I stated earlier, this is a pretty transient place, so bands seem to change quickly.
We are all part of Discos Atitlán, a recording coop that we started a couple of years ago to help each other produce and distribute our music. We have so far produced 12 CDs of music ranging from some ethnographic local music to Tangos, Rumba, Jazz, Kid music and much more.
