LATEST NEWS: Rick Rowan's song "Later Than You Think" aired on a recent episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show! It was featured during a story called "Meet The Heroes Behind The Headlines." The solo piano version of "Lost And Found" is featured on MTV's "The Best Of Making The Band II." The show is available on home video. Rick's music has also aired recently on The Food Network and Soapnet. Upon his arrival in Los Angeles back in the 80s, songwriter Rick Rowan was quickly signed to a publishing deal by Barton Music (publishers of many standards recorded by Frank Sinatra and others). Moving to Nashville a few years later, Rowan co-wrote with several #1 hit country songwriters. His songs have been recorded by major label acts, and have been featured on network TV shows. Now back in Los Angeles, Rick has released "Lost And Found," a collection of melodic pop tunes.
Band/artist history
As a young man, Rick quickly came to the startling realization that he had absolutely no marketable skills to help him successfully navigate his way in the modern world. How would he survive, he wondered? What would he do? Rick pondered the situation long and hard. One night it hit him - songwriting! How hard could it be, he reasoned, to write a song and get it to a major recording artist, who would then record it, release it, and have an international hit with it? It sounded simple enough. And from that point on, Rick thought, wouldn't it just be a matter of waiting for the royalty check to arrive? The plan was so obvious Rick only wondered why it hadn't occurred to him before. He chuckled to himself. Well, Rick thought, he couldn't fault himself. After all, probably no one else had ever thought of it, either. And so, satisfied that he was armed with a sound plan of action, Rick bought a guitar and set off to make his fortune. Details to follow.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I do not play live. I'm a songwriter and a producer. Mostly I play in my room and in the studio. And in the canyons of my mind.
Your musical influences
Charles Bukowski, Stan Musial, Bob Dylan, Woody Allen, The Beatles, Picasso, Joni Mitchell, Maynard G. Krebs. And let's not forget The Archies.
What equipment do you use?
Does anybody read this section? I could pretty much be saying anything here, couldn't I? If you're reading this, stop it! You've been staring at the computer for way too long! Turn it off. Go outside. Get some fresh air. Maybe take a stroll around the neighborhood. It'll do you a world of good. Trust me. You'll thank me for this advice. Have I ever lied to you? No, I mean that you could prove in a court of law? Now go! Go on! Scoot!
Anything else?
LOST AND FOUND was recorded at Foz Sound (Kenny G, Brenda Russell, Pat Benatar, Don Johnson & Stephen Stills) and Theta Sound Studios (Isaac Hayes, Ray Manzarek of the Doors) in Los Angeles. It was mastered by Nancy Matter, of Moonlight Mastering, Burbank, CA, a long-established mastering engineer (Peter Gabrial, Ray Charles). It features performances by some of the recording industry's finest session players, including Larry Cohn, Barry Fasman, Kevin Harris, Robert Berry and Joe Milton -- all top-notch studio musicians who have recorded with Bette Midler, Barry Manilow, Dan Fogelberg, Burt Bacharach, Julio Igesias, Diana Ross, Billy Joel, George Benson, and many others. Besides Barton Music, Rowan has written for several music publishing companies in the past (including Famous Music, Pride Music, Welk Music, and Chappell Music), and now has his own independent publishing company, Colella Songs (ASCAP). Rick enjoys long walks in the park and referring to himself in the third person.
