Spoken Word

Katrina aka Queen Unique was raised in a small city where creativity such as the arts and poetry was taboo. It was not "hip" to be different in Fort Myers, Florida. While the children in her neighborhood wanted to play house, sports and to dance...Katrina wanted to play school, write and read. This soon made her an outcast to the other kids and her social involvement decreased. Eventually Katrina conformed and suppressed this true gift that was granted to her by the Creator.

While experiencing many of life's ups and downs Katrina continued to secretly use poetry as her private outlet and as a result, her talent continued to flourish. About two years back (as corny as it may sound) Katrina had hit rock bottom and resorted to a simple prayer over one fortune cookie. She asked the Lord to make the paper in that cookie deliver any message that she may not be hearing from Him because her vision and hearing had been impaired by the world. When she opened the cookie, it said, "Go Confidently in the Direction of Your Dreams." This forced her to emerge from her shell and finally release her work to the masses. Public reaction agreed so since then not only has Queen Unique signed her first book deal with PublishAmerica for her book of poetry and things of that nature entitled "A Mile in My Heels...A Compilation of WordPlay" but she has also written articles for magazines, read at spoken word venues and is currently recording audio C.D.'s. In 30 minutes or less the Queen can lay down a piece focusing on love, sex, heritage, black history, religion, politics or life itself...there is no limit to her subject matter. What Queen Unique does is in a genre of it's own. It can't be classified as poetry, hip hop, spoken word, rap, prose or R&B. It bridges the gap between all of these into one perfect equilibrium. Her Christianity dashes a hint of gospel into her tone, her heritage lays down a hint of soul and jazz, heartache and love brings the flavor of R&B and her beauty, maturity and sexuality are undeniable. All of these components combined make her into true royalty. This is QUEEN UNIQUE.
