PURPLE ROBE, a Gospel-based, Mumbai Hard Rock band was formed somewhere during 2001. The band's primary goal is to spread the Gospel to Rock fans especially amongst the youth. Presently the band comprises of Joe Andy (vocals) & Björn Xavier (guitars). PURPLE ROBE, a Gospel-based, Mumbai Hard Rock band was formed somewhere during 2001. Vocalist JOE ANDY, after completing a course in Word Ministry thought of preaching the Gospel through Rock Music. Influenced by bands like Stryper, Petra, Whitecross and almost all Classic Rock bands of the 70s, he composed several songs while training to be a Word Minister somewhere during 1997. Years later he met guitarist BJöRN XAVIER practicing hymns outside a church preparing for the choir. Björn, influenced entirely by Deep Purple and Classic Rock music shared the same idea of fusing the Gospel with Rock. Soon they started jamming together on songs that Joe had already composed and which also forms most part of the first album recorded. Initially playing under the bandname, ROCKERS FOR CHRIST, they performed for various fests organized by the Church. Happy with the modest response they received from the youth, they decided to record an album.
During his college years, Björn played the guitar for brief periods with local Mumbai Rock bands and worked with DJs assisting them to record and edit their music. During this time he learnt a fair bit about PC-based recording softwares. Using this modest knowledge for Rockers For Christ, they started recording the songs on Björn's home-PC using the simplest recording softwares available. Since the band didn't have other musicians except for a vocalist and guitarist, Björn played bass, keys and programmed the drums on the album.
The album was recorded in January 2003 and released on a small scale later that year in the local church. The band's name was changed to PURPLE ROBE as suggested by Björn and their first strictly Scripture-based album's name was simply titled 'ROCKERS FOR CHRIST'. Impressed by the response to the album and their will to spread the Gospel amongst Rock lovers especially the youth, the band has decided to search for a fulltime keyboardist, bassist and drummer.Have you performed in front of an audience?The band has played live only for fests organized by the Church. They've played regularly for Dominican Youth Rally's, especially since both Joe and Björn are part of the Dominican Community.

Influences include almost all Classic Rock bands but that doesn't limit us to only the Rock genre. We appreciate and enjoy listening to any form of music.Anything else?
