Rock General

Ever since I was in grade 1, I had been passionate about music. Later in grade 3, I , along with one of my friends decided to form a band. After winning a number of singing competitions, I finally decided that music was where my heart lied and this was exactly what I was gonna do in the future aswell. I had this dream of becoming the biggest name in the history of music, which may aswell be a bit over the top but just goes to show how seriously I took my stuff, it wasnt just a hobby for me. Music had become my life before I knew it. Later in grade 7, I decided that now that I had made up my mind that this was what I was gonna do, I thought I should take some formal training in order to develop into a mature vocalist. Hence I took up eastern classical vocals training, and even to this date, I'm still taking the lessons. Unfortunately for me my band mate had to move to Canada, and therefore I was left alone in this pursuit of my dream. Currently Im in the process of establishing a new band which shall be known by the name "Pure". At the moment Im restricted to covers only but with the process of time I plan to make original stuff. In my opinion, music should be conceptual. The more you work on an ideoligy the better music you make. The basic need is to have a fixed goal and a clear picture in mind of the kind of music you want to make. Music should not be formulated, it should come straight from the heart and it should clearly speak to the listener, only then would its essence be appreciated. If you are true to your art you are bound to be appreciated. I was extremely unhappy with the music scene in Pakistan where music was taken as a mere time pass rather than something serious. Good music requires a life time of devotion, with alot of sweat and blood going into it. You cannot be a musician just because your dad bought you a guitar on your 18th birthday, or because chicks will dig you if you're a rock star. This is what Iam totally against. If you wanna be a good musician then atleast do some homework, overnight success is never long lasting. There was a huge void in my country's music scene untill recently. If there is no experimentation and diversity things become stale and come to a standstill. Being an artform, music has to evolve through ages. This evolution has to be brought in through people who are willing to try out new stuff and to make a difference rather than hop on to the same bandwagon and emulate what others are doing. I am extremely happy with the new bands that are coming to the scene now. Suddenly there is a breath of fresh air and things have finally started going in the right direction. As for me , I am 17 years old as yet and still have a long way to go before I make my entrance into the mainstream, theres a lot more maturing to do, and a hell lot to learn till I finally think that yes now is the right time, my aim is simple, though easier said than done, to be the best, to revolutionize music, to make a difference, to make a name for my country internationally in this field that I love, dont wanna be just "another brick in the wall".
Your musical influences
I'd divide this into categories. Basically I like guitar oriented music. I love Rock, Progressive Rock, guitar solos and stuff, they really elevate me. I specifically like Funk/Blues, eastern classical thaats and raags especially "aimon", "nat bhero", "darbari", "desi". I like ballads and generally I listen to all kinds of music except for black/death metal, hardcore rap and Im not really into trance techno either. Amongst my favourite bands, well my main influence has always been the Pakistani band Vital Signs, then there is Bryan Adams, U2, Pink Floyd, Creed, Eagles, Beatles, Travis, Kid Rock. Amongst the local(Pakistani) bands I like Karavan, Fuzon, Junoon, Aaroh,Entity Paradigm, Noori. My favourite musicians are Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dave Gilmoure, Carlos Santana, Joe Satriani, Jimmi Hendrix. Amongst the locals I really like Rohail Hayat (Vital Signs), Aamir Zaki, Gumby, Assad Ahmed, Shaalum Xavier, Salman Albert. My favourite vocalists are Rob Thomas (Matchbox 20), Elvis Presley, Scott Stapp (Creed), Bono (U2). From the locals firstly theres my own teacher Abiam (Schehzad Hameed Band), Najam Sheraz, Shafqat Amanat Ali (Fuzon).
Anything else?
I would really like to thank my buddy Hassaan from the band [eP] for recording the guitars with me on all the songs. Luv ya bro!
