"It's difficult to create something as a solo effort that has the feel and musical diversity of multiple, unique human inputs. There's a kind of stigma attached to solo artists for this reason, I've found. As Principles of Uncertainty, the musical elements have very specific styles and I take great care to be certain that the finished material represents no element of greater importance than any other."
Band/artist history
Put a studio together. Write some songs. Record and produce some songs. Voila - band.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
No... PoU is currently merely a concept under which I write and record. Would I? Sure - if the right opportunity to do came up.
Your musical influences
If you're not picking up a RUSH vibe in my work, you're not listening or have been living under a rock for the past 30+ years, oblivious to their work. Nah - just kidding really, but yes, RUSH... and YES. Some Kansas and Dream Theater. More recently I've been into harder edged bands like Disturbed and KORN as well as TOOL. I hope a little of that comes through from time to time as well.
What equipment do you use?
Instruments: Rickenbacker 4003, Schecter Diamond, Ovation roundback acoustic. Studio: Roland VS-2400, Reason 4, couple of midi controllers. One outboard compressor/limiter (Alesis), one outboard multi-effect (Zoom). Line 6 on the floor.
Anything else?
Familiar in the Abstract is a self-produced first effort for Principles of Uncertainty dealing with the idea of lifes indoctrinations into various schools of thought (and the freeing of the self thereof), an introspective look at confronting, and possibly growing past, the paths in life that we didn't originally make decisions about on our own. More accessible than generally 'Progressive'... Principles of Uncertainty let the influences shine through while producing an original sound based in high creativity and introspective design. Prog Art? Rock? Progressive Rock? --- not specific to one but elements of all three ... and more, with influences that span from Rush and Yes to Tool to Duran Duran and beyond.
