What's up. They Call Me Plain Jayne. I'm the one and only female of a Virginia-based rap group called Fort Rep and I've been rapping for about 12 years. (I'm 22) I've only been recording for about 3 or 4 years. Generally, I just write and record and pass out a few cd's and consider my goal accomplished, but now I want to see how far my music can go.
I've been rapping since the 4th grade. Now I'm 22 and about to graduate from college. I know that soon real life will take over, so I'm pushing to get as much done before then as possible. Real life is calling me... I wanna get my music to a place where I can proudly walk away and not regret before I have to answer life's beckoning.
I do perform live. I've opened for Chris Brown at a club called "The G Spot" in Warsaw, VA, as well as some performances at parties, in talent shows, poetry slams, and concerts.
Personally, I try to listen to other artists as little as possible because it makes coming up with similar styles and lyrics WAY TOO EASY. I love Lauryn Hill though. I try to listen to artists whose styles arent anything close to mine so that i can maintain my originality and not be a biter.
As frustrating as it is, I dont have any equipment of my own so when I scrape up some change for studio time or when I harrass a friend who makes beats, I get music done, which is usually rare. I have so much unrecorded music it would make Tupac look like a slacker. (just jokes)
I'm not one to start beef. I do me. But i don't let disrespect go unanswered. And the worst thing to me is battling other females. One, because we're the minority in the music industry so it makes more sense to go after these spotlight-hoggin males than to go after each other, and 2, because I dont understand why there can be so many males considered to be the best and yet when it comes to females, people think there can only be one.
