In the summer of 2002 the members of Black Sheep decided to go in different directions musically. Unwilling to let the spirit of NCHC fade, guitarist Dan Greenfield and vocalist Joe Kelly called upon long time friend and drummer Damien Strasbourg whom had played with Dan in earlier NC acts such as Under The Influence and Strangled Authority.

The boys now set their sights on finding a bass player. The search didn’t take long when former Black Sheep drummer, Matt Scholey, returned from school and joined the ranks. The guys now began rigorously writing new material, as well as revamping some old favorites.

By mid-winter they had a full set of fast paced Hard Core songs finely tuned and well honed but there was something still slightly off, it was after their first show that the decision was made to give Matt a crack at lead guitar. He did not disappoint but what of bass? where would they find a bass player who could fit in with the group socially as well as be competent enough to learn all the songs quickly? The obvious choice was Jeremy Irwin long time friend and former Strangled Authority bassist. Now they were complete and ready to make a name for themselves: Phoenix Down. Meant to mark the death of one band and the birth of another, but also to signify that although the Black Sheep have flocked their separate ways the Spirit remains and it will Never Say Die.
