House

Ain't nothing like the feeling you get from house, and a great tune played at just the right time of the night. Although its popularity may come and go, I'm a believer in the power of the music. I produce progressive house, deep house, trance, jazzy house, and anything else that moves me from beautiful Madison, Wisconsin, USA.
Band/artist history
I am a conservatory trained guitarist who was playing in rock, blues, and jazz groups in the late 1980's. I became disillusioned with the negativity of the music and the industry. I really couldn't see myself as a grunger, and I didn't identify with Nine Inch Nails, or Filter, or Metallica, or any of the other bands at that time. Not that they weren't cool, but they weren't my role models. Guitar playing had become a chore around that time, what with every player trying to play faster, more authentic neo-classical blues rock licks at the speed of light. I couldn't take it anymore. It wasn't fun being a musician anymore. I seriously considered moving to Nashville and going country. But..... I had been going out to the underground clubs in Cincinnati, Ohio with friends when house music came on the scene. I fell immediately for the music, which was positive but had a power that inspired me. It wasn't about technicality, it was about feelings, first and foremost. Once I decided to forget about trying to make money in the music industry, I went with my heart. I started my production facility in a small apartment in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999, with a Gateway Celeron 400 mHz computer and Cakewalk Pro Audio software. My first efforts were amateurish at best, but over time I learned how to set up beats, fix vocals, and mix. I continued to build the studio up when I moved to Chicago in 2000. While there, I explored the different genres of dance music, including progressive house, trance, genuine Chicago house, and deep house. I also went to the Winter Music Conference to learn more about the business side of things. Through different projects, I began to develop a system of working, and a style in several genres. When I produce, I try to stay in the genre for each project, as I think too much mixing of styles makes the songs unfocused. Early on my major heroes were people like Paul VanDyk, and some of the early tracks reflect that. Lately I've been getting into more soulful stuff inspired by J Jay and Migs, and the productions are deeper. These tracks I present to you are some of my favorites over the last few years in all these styles. Enjoy, and post your feedback, Thanks. DJ Jud.
