Organ Den Studio is a unique studio. It was designed so I could play and do my own engeneering at the same time, so it has no physical seperate control room. I can sit behind my two hammonds and rhodes, and both the visual and audio monitors are right in front of me. Besides the keyboard/control room we have a drum room, and another live room, all slightly isolated from each other (not totally soundproof but enough to keep everything pretty seperate for "go back and fix" purposes. We handle tracking and mixing, but we don't attempt mastering. This is a seperate art in itself and we'd rather concentrate on getting the best possible sound we can recorded.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live from time to time, but the studio is my home. I enjoy the studio way more than any live experience.
Your musical influences
Medeski Martin and Wood, Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, McGriff, Smith, Smith, Smith (yea, there are three of them!), Larry Young, Barb Dennerlein, Kraig Kastelnic, I could go on for pages................
What equipment do you use?
I have a ton of vintage keys down here, including three hammonds (CV, M3, S6 chord organ) as well as a wurly, rhodes, D6 Clav, Korg MS20 and a few others. We have a Pearl Session series kit here, three leslies, various rack mount and stompbox effects, a tube guitar amp, and mics to record them all. AT the moment I'm using a cakewalk product to record. I'm running through various old warm analog mixers into two M-audio 1010 LT's, giving me a total of 16 possible inputs at once.
Anything else?
Yea, my dream is for this to be a place that spurs creativity on, kind of like Rudy's famous Blue Note studio.
