openWake began early in 2008 as an idea: bring together four talented musicians with different backgrounds and a passion for music, and see what happens. Combining the powerful vocals and captivating lyrics of Chad Cantrell, the fretwork of guitarist Chris Holbrook, the fluid bass lines of Ben Prater, and the solid foundation laid down by drummer Brandon McKenzie, each aspect of the music is drawn from years of experience and commitment.
Centered around the songs of Chad Cantrell, openWake has become a unique band with a sound truly all their own: modern and contemporary with intriguing melodies and soulful vocals, alongside shred-orientated lead guitar playing and blues-meets-metal backdrops. This mixture of styles and genres provides endless possibilities.
But most important are the attitudes of the members themselves. This is a band focused on the music. Each member has an equal part in guiding the songs to be the best that they can be, egos and self-indulgences aside. That is the glue that binds this band together and ensures that it stays together.

Hi Chad!! It has been a long time since we wrote to each other. I'm doing fine; glad you're doing the same. I listened to all the tracks you have on your page. So far i think this is the best I heard. The melody is catchy....like the hard rock at intro then slowly changes to a smooth verse. Nice chorus. You still have an amazing voice; i told you that on day one. After listening several times, I think there still needs a little improvement. Your voice is a little soft at the beginning, should be a little bit louder than the instruments. And maybe to spice the track a bit a more, add some background vocals somewhere in the track...maybe another voice ...hmmm..hard to explain....wish i can show. Other than that, I think your voice is potential in any tracks. Your voice is commercial.

This is real tight,like the way it rocks in the beginning and then settles down to a great smooth verse and back to the power for chorus.Really good song!!!
I think the vocals could come up just a bit in the mix.
