Band/artist history
Born in Israel, singer/songwriter Nefrit El-Or has been busy developing in the local music scene since she came to the U.S. five years ago. Based in DC, Nefrit has played at places such as the 9:30 Club, The State theatre, the Velvet Lounge, Iota, Jammin' Java and many other venues, and had been able to fill up the best clubs. She has toured with her band around the east coast to Nashville, New York, PA, VA, played at number of music festivals, conferences and various colleges. She had also been interviewed and played live on 103.1 WRNR, 103.1 WFRY, 88.1, DC 101.1 and her songs are played regularly on DC 101.1, Z104 and other stations. Her song Collider was an editor pick on the Washington Post mp3 site, and was added to the Emergenza festival compilation. The song Eye For An Eye was added to the 2003 Millennium conference compilation. They are played on several radio and TV shows, and were added to some other music festivals compilations and such. Her debut album Maya Blue has gotten great reviews at the Washington Post, Music Monthly, and other papers. She recently had the honor of being nominated for a few 2004 Wammie (Washington Area Music Association prize ceremony) nominations for Best Rock Instrumentalist, Best Debut Album, and Best Rock Album. Nefrits shows are full of energies and movement, as she gives everything she has into them. Her style is a mix of Dave Matthews, Ani Difranco, Radio Head, and Middle Eastern influences.
