Led by Ed Finkelstein and various other famous members whom we would name if it weren't for lawsuits, Name have been rocking the globe for 30 years. They’ve shared the stage with countless classic bands, we would also name is it weren’t for lawsuits. Name will rock you, no lawsuits please.
Name were discovered late last year by British Rock impresario, Nigel Witherspoon. The bad thing is that Name have been making records and touring the world since the 70's. Name would have been a success, if it weren't for several unfortunate circumstances.
The first negative is the name of the band, "Name". How do you market a band named name? “Back in the early seventies, we thought we were stickin’ it to the man”, says founding member Ed Finkelstein. “Try selling yourself to stoned hippies, when you’re your band is named Name. Especially when you’re a stoned hippie too”.
The second unfortunate thing about name was their notorious record deal with Fatco Records. We thought we were signing to Atco. This was followed by stints on Fatlantic, Wanker Bros. “Never sign a contract until you learn to read”, offers Ed.
Third, one member has passed away during the making of each of the bands 20 plus albums. Poisonings, car crashes taking off a drummers arm in the middle of an album, choking on vomit, drowning in swimming pools, getting shot by the producer, choking on a chicken bone are only a few of the ways in which members have died. Yet Name marches on. “Making an album began to be a very sad thing. If it weren’t for my deal with the Devil, I’d probably be dead”, Says Ed.
Nevertheless, Name are now singed to Nigel Witherspoon’s, Rock Godz label and are finally on the verge of greatness. “I feel I’ve got a hit here.”, says Nigel. “After hearing their last E.P. “Donkey Punch”. I became convinced I had to sign Name, even if it took my vast fortune. Luckily the buggers work for peanuts.”
