Story behind the song

I think that the real story behind this song is that I was feeling bad because I still loved my friend who had recently become a bisexual, and was now in a more or less long-term relationship with the stupidest girl I knew. And it showed no sign of ending. And I was depressed, because I knew I'd lost my chance long ago, back when we both had time.
