Story behind the song

This was one of my first songs written in 1971. It is also an early home recording effort around 1993 on cassette. I really wish I could re-do this especially the bass line.

Verse 1:
Once upon a time in a land called Eden
Lived two people named Adam and Eve
And they - had their freedom
God said they could have
Anything their hearts did please them,
And he only asked one small thing
That they would not eat
Of the fruit of that tree (God said)

Chorus:
I will seek that which was lost
Bring my sheep back to the flock

Then Eve went and ate the fruit and
So did Adam -
And hid from God ashamed for they knew
He had seen them -
And God said they must leave the land called Eden
For they had gone their own way
And given up
Their freedom (God said)

Had their children
And all the children lived in sin and
Cried for freedom
And God from up in heaven
Heard their cryin'
And sent his only Son down
To do the dyin'
