Instrumental Guitar Rock/Pop with a "Twist"!
Story behind the song
Conceived May 1989. This is Take 1 DAW Mix 1. Recorded May 1989 Yamaha MT-100 & October 2016 Sonar X1
The very first take of my "Beethoven-cum-Bolero' thrash metal song!
Initial tracking was
1) - Main Rhythm drums from preset drum machine song onto mono (!!) track;
2)-Distortion Rhythm Guitar;
3)-Lead Guitar &;
4)-Harmony Lead Guitar
Then the usual mix-down to stereo/bounce-back scenario, followed by
5) Faux "Bass" Guitar; and then
6)- A "Sonic" Harmony Lead Guitar
Then another mixdown/bounce-back, and finally
7)-Additional Drums/Cymbals fills (but NO COWBELL!!) tracked Stereo.
Transferred this into DAW from ADAT Archive tapes of all 3 separate sets of overdubs
Then did some editing, some general clean up, nudging & lining up stuff that was out of sync
Made a copy of the DRG & put in a clip off-set & detune patch for it to thicken things up
Put in an Amp Simulation & Compressor patch for the "Bass" & various subtle EQ adjustments here & there.
Back when originally tracked, on the mixdown of the second set of Overdubs, I did pan sweeps to the "Sonic" guitar track, but decided to x-nay that idea here.
AND......up until about 4 months ago, I had a VERY different mix uploaded on this song, one that suffered from a pitch problem, where even though I recorded this in the key of B, it sounded more like the key of C, or somewhere in between C & C#!
THIS was because my cassette deck I had for my mixdown/bouncing deck ran a little faster than the normal 1 7/8ips that most "normal" cassette decks run.
Two Words: Radio Shack!!
And thus, I didn't even notice that it was getting sped up EVERY F*****G TIME I bounced back to 4 track!!!
AND ...... naturally I didn't THINK to adjust the f***ing PITCH CONTROL I had on my 4 track to compensate for this (probably just kept re-tuning my instruments!!)
Ah, the hedonistic early days.......!
But now corrected! ;)
