electronica techno dance electronic breakbeat soundscape
Electronic solo project, running the gamut from evolving rhythmic soundscapes to vocally infused pop songs.
Particle Junkie is Flynn Gleason. In 1995, being a bit of a nerd, he fell in love with synthesizers and drum machines. He joined his friend Adam LaBarge to embark on a project called Fulcrum Clearance 12'0" (or fc120). Using software, they forged their own cut and paste style of music based in synthetic soundscapes and experimental noise, inspired summarily by a few Warp Records artists and a rather healthy dose of industrial. Over the years the tools got better, and so did the music, but they never saw fit to release it to more than friends, always focused on creating the next great song rather than promotion or money. After a good run, Adam moved onto other ventures, and Flynn continued composing under the name Facade. This went on for the next few years, as he branched out from his dark influences, exploring melodies, sound design, rhythm, and vocals, striving to deliver funk while challenging the notion that electronic music is cold and unemotional. Never one to stick to a genre, the only way to somewhat accurately phrase what you may hear in an average Particle Junkie song is a good beat and a collage of synthesizers morphing and blipping in a surreal pseudo-organic fashion, sometimes with vocals, robotic or otherwise. Eventually Flynn decided the name Facade was "a little too pretentious or something," and changed his name to Particle Junkie, which is far less pretentious by his estimation. Which brings us to today, and the release of his debut album, "Hot'n'Nerdy". The album ranges from long evolving danceable soundscapes to humorous pop songs about nerds and salmon teriyaki. If particulate matter has you hooked, here's an excuse to celebrate. Head on over to www.cdbaby.com/cd/particlejunkie to check that out. Also on itunes, last.fm, napster, rhapsody, amazon, etc etc

Story behind the song
Ugh, this song... 3 months in the making, the last month and a half of which were spent painstakingly fine tuning the kicks and the bass- in the end it was worth it.I still don't feel 100% I got the mix down right, comments welcome to that end, or any end (except the rear end). This started out with screwing around with True Strike Tension, making cinematic drums, which were actually pretty cool, but of course I had to funk it up.Some of the ambient electro-gibberish come from various elements of Komplete 7, but get so mangled in Reason/Record thru time stretching, Neptune, etc, that they're pretty much unrecognizable from the source. Most or all of the melodic synths come from R R, as do the bass and main kick/snare track, and it features a bit of the FM social club combinator I programmed, featured heavily in "Morphillogical."
